2005 CR-V front end clunking noise

My new 2005 CRV LX (3400 km) has a clunking noise coming mainly from the right front suspension. This noise occurs on small sharp bumps or potholes. The dealer changed the right shock but the clunking is still there. So the dealer had me ride in another 2005 CRV from his lot. This car, with only 1400 km on the odometer, had exactly the same noise. Thus the dealer to concluded that the noise is normal and due to the front suspension design. I am really puzzled because my driving experience tells me that this noise is not normal. What is your advice on this?
On another forum there is a 2004 post saying that there is an old(?) TSB notice regarding a possible problem with a nut/bolt on the upper control arm which apparently is a defect typical of new CRVs. Has anyone heard about it?

I believe the TSB you refer to is related to a under torqued shock nut. That causes a knock over any bump not just making turns but going straight as well.

Some of the noise may very well be normal. The way the newer CR-v's are designed as compaired to the older ones is quite different. The noise in question may just be the spring turning on the mount in which it sits in. Basically in my eyes a poor design.

its weird . some do and some don't. Its sort of like the brake click when doing a K turn and the pads shift. Some do and some don't. I gues not all parts are built exactly the same.

My 2005 Honda CRV has had a noisy vibration on 2 occasions--like the wheels were going to fall off--the entire car vibrated on highway---after 20 minutes suddenly stopped. The 2nd time it happened it was raining. It happened 6 weeks apart and was quickly checke dthe first time. Today it is being checked again--we will see. I am worried it isa defect and want it resolved before warranty is over. I am at 4300 miles now.

Does anyone have info about this problem and how serious is it?

Dibona: I have a 2005 CRV and it has the exact same noise that you are describing - like a crunching noise in the front end when I go over a bump or turn into a driveway, etc. I took it to the Honda dealer and they could not hear the problem (I even drove the car with the mechanic with me. I could hear it but the mechanic couldn't). They looked at the front end anyway and said they could not see a problem and didn't know what it was. I left without the problem solved. I will take my CRV back and show your message to them and the response you got regarding the under torqued shock nut (thanks). Did you ever get the problem solved? It is getting worse.

I have been having trouble with a ker thunk/ker thud/ clunk/bump noise on my 99 CRV. It does not happen all the time but mostly when accelerating. It justs decides, "OK, now's the time" and starts with its ker thunk. Yesterday it got worse but after sitting a couple of minutes with the car turned off barely made the noise when my son rode in it. Ex: On a two hour drive home(partially on interstate) I had to drive 40 mph on the interstate for fear the wheel was going to come off. We have 4 brand new tires and the noise was there before they were replaced. It feels like a flat spot on a tire but is not constant, just when the vehicle decides to. Sometimes if youpull of the road for 30 seconds and reaccelerate you can get up to a decent speed before it acts out again. Its almost as if something gets hot then needs to cool down. We have talked to 3 mechanics(one drove it and felt the problem, said is old truck has a bad tire and its the same feeling) but he can not locate the problem. He did replace a bad motor mount and two weeks later found another one. It seemed to correct the problem for about 4 weeks until yesterday. I wonder if the motor mounts are going out one by one? I have seen the broken motor mounts and the mechanic is trustworthy. The inconsistency of the thunking feeling/noise has us puzzled??????? btw it has almost 100,000 miles and we had the rear diff fluid serviced hoping that would solve the problem. BUt nope. Any advice?????

Our 2003 CRV has been clunking in the right front for about a year now. It didn't do it when we first bought it with 16,000 miles on it, but it started about a year later. Our nearest Honda dealer is 40 miles away, so we don't make many trips back to their shop. Our rough back roads are tough on suspensions, so I figured it was a shock. It will be interesting to see if someone finds a cure.
