It most likely is your starter - sounds like the sound of a weak starter to me, the reason it would have went away is because - when u installed a brand new battery the starter was gettin alot more cranking amps an was not being strained as it used to be with a weaker battery - so yes find a new starter.

get a new starter? heck, why not just rebuild your current starter! they're pretty simple. i rebuilt my dad's starter on his 96 camry. it would be fun and you'd get dirty, and could call yourself a grease monkey and a gear head. why not find out why the starter isn't performing up to par? i bet the rebuild could tell you. hint: its probably corroded electrical connections that could be cleaned or simply replaced for a nominal fee.

It is most likely a sticking gear. I'll be damned if I cant remember what its called. It really has nothing to do with the electrical part of it. Its more of a mechanical failure and it happens on alot of 3s starters.

lol, it was just a suggestion... I get new parts up there all the time, usually way below retail and/or what I can get it for locally...
local shop charges a/b $450 for a Fidanza Lightweight Flywheel... got one on ebay $365 delivered to my door... already had tranny pulled, so I'm putting it in myself...

nice find. I know IPO sells it for $360, but that difference is nominal. Everywhere else I've seen it for is $400+ Let us know how you like it when you get it installed and running.

About the starter, I was thinking... I had a friend who's starter completely locked up and stopped functioning... he simply beat it with a pipe wrench... it knocked loose the dirt and what-not... it lasted him another couple of months... is there a solenoid that might be hanging up?
