My 97 Tbird LX has dash light problems. Sometimes all my dash lights go out for a while and then they come on again. I have changed the fuse twice. No results. The car also has the AUTO headlight feature. The power goes in and out of the fuse and headlights work when I turn the light switch on, or use AUTOLAMP, but intermittently, the dash lights go off. When the dash lights go off, the radio display and temperature display (green LED) stay on, but the clock display dims.Thank you for reading this. Any help will be appreciated. There is another posting about this from SHOWME409 but the problem was never resolved.
Thanks

Go to helminc.com and order the electrical and vacuum troubleshooting manual for your car. The easiest place to start checking is at the secondary junction block which is located to the right of the steering column under the dash and has eight plugs going into it. Turn to page 71-1 of the manual for the cicuits you need to test and page 11-5 for a diagram of the SJB and numbers of the connectors that plug into it.

Thanks 97bird!, I will try and do that, although I am not much with electrical systems. I hope maybe someone had the same problem and figured out what is the matter.

If you don't get an answer, buy the manual or ask at your library for the Mitchell electrical manual for your year car to get the electrical diagram for the instrument illumination circuits. Our library lets you photocopy the pages that you need. I'll walk you through it if you need more help. You will also need a cheap voltmeter or test light.

I had this happen to me on a 85 T-bird. It was a bad rheostat headlight switch. It also had a short in the line and was blowing fuses.
I also lost my tail lights.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Well it's the same as last year. The cold weather comes and the dash light works fine again. Whatever the problem is I think it must be something outside the inner cabin of the car. Pretty strange I must say.
Thanks
