On standard Silverado and Sierra, not much besides front ends, taillights, and price. Built on the same platform. But when you get into the sierra denali, you get AWD and the 6.0L like the SS, but more of a z-71 type of suspension, instead of the z60 performance suspension. Is there anything I forgot

Since this is a one vs the other thread, my vote is on chevy. I don't like the way the front end on the gm's look.

I've always thought there was no difference, but GMC wins more awards for reliability than Chevy trucks. I don't know what makes the difference.

For me, it comes down to the dealership.
When I was shopping for a truck, my local GMC dealer thought his sh*t didn't stink (just like Dodge), and that he was doing you a favor by selling you a truck.
My Chevy dealer worked with me, gave me a great deal.
Don't know if there is any difference in the service depts.
I do like Chevys styling more.
Price wise, GMC's are a tad more expsensive, but I think the quality remains about the same, IMO.

My personal opinion is the Chevy, I think it just has a tougher, truck look to it. I think the GMC looks a little bit too much like a car. I like the fact the front of the chevy has the angry eyebrow look to it.

I read one time that Chevy and GMC trucks were built at the same factory with appropriate badging put on at the assembly line. Apparently Chevy built all trucks up to 1 ton models and GMC factories built the heavier trucks above the one ton models. In any case they are all one and the same and you can take a GMC for warranty service to a Checy dealer and vice versa. My Chevy goes to a GMC dealer for all warranty work, just becacause it is closer to home.

True. Many GMC's came off the carrier at the dealerships with the wrong badging. Many times one side would be badged as a Chev and the other side would be GMC.

It also used to be that the GMC's were a bit more refined, and had things like more sound deadening and stuff like that, but now they're
more or less the same truck.

As a general contractor, I have done quite a few projects at the Linden, NJ assembly plant, which has just been closed.
Both GMC and Chevy rolled off the same line - the small pick-ups and the blazers / envoys.
I've seen many mistakes with interiors, badging, decals, paint, dings, dents, leaking water, etc. There was a dedicated area of the plant where these mistakes were corrected.
I never saw a vehicle with 2 different badges on it. The same line worker would "trim" both sides of the vehicle. The mistakes were gmc's with chevy trim or chevy's with gmc paint colors, wrong bumpers, etc. The guys are not that blind, maybe hung-over, but not blind.
I swore that I would never buy a blazer, seeing how these things got built. But I did. Leased one for 3 years. Zero problems. I am a true chevy fan.
IMO, GMC has become the "fancier" Chevy, with more plastic, at a higher price and but with the same guts.

Not at all! The embarassing part was that usually it was not only the factory that let the vehicle leave in that condition. Most of the time our prep people never caught it either, and it was the purchasing customer that usually brought the truck back in to be made right. :uhoh:

Not sure how to reply on this one...I've got some pals that used to hang doors at the now closed Fisher Body plant in Lansing. One worked day shift and the other worked the same position at night, and their biggest concern each day was how to discourage the following guy from stealing their bags of gloves, as that was their padding for sleeping under their benches on bad days. The day shift guy finally had a brainstorm, and just filled the bag with left hand gloves!

Where did you find a GMC dealer to touch it. I went to the local GMC dealer one time and told the service guy it was a warranty repair. He took two steps back and said he could not touch it. He said no GMC place was allowed to work on a Chevy for warranty repairsor vice versa. Now I have to drive 4 times as far to find a Chevy place.

That service writer was living in the olden days. That is the way it used to be. Things have changed and they are able to cross-warranty any GM product if they chose to do so.
I take my wife's Pontiac to the GMC dealer for warranty repairs, because I used to work there and trust the techs there. Had warranty work done on my Chevy Tahoe there too. (That truck sure kept them busy :uhoh: )

I like the new GMC looks these days. They just look alittle bit more smoother.I like the silverado 99-02 look too,but if i was trying to buy a new truck i would buy a GMC,just because of the frontend looks better.
