Dive for a tank a gas and find out foryourself? I know in an 86 13b I can get 500 on the highway. 350 in town

get 5 gallons in a tank in your backseat, fil it, and just keep driving, take how much you galons you got and divide by ow many miles you went when it ran out, i could tell you how it was from the dealer, but this is also a 20 year old car so i couldn't say its accurate, cars with age lose their gas mileage.

You may be able to average around 20. Fill your tank till it tops off, drive about 150 miles or so, refill it till it tops off again. Note how many gallons you put in during the refil, then divide 150 by that number
Say you ended up putting in 7 gallons on the refill, you divide 150miles/7gallons you have achieved 21.4 MPG

I had a friend with a '83 12A modified w/ carbs and headers. He got around 30 if he was nice to it. I got 13 to 15 city with my '86 and '88 n/a 13B, about 25 hwy. All depends on how and where you drive. . .

Yes, it is. But I also didn't know how to not have fun driving then. Gas prices have taught me how to lately. :( His car was also stripped down to bare nothing and was running 8s 1/8 miles.

8's in the 1/8 is sad man, it really really is.
As I've seen stock cavaliers run 7's.....
Also seen an FC do 6's that was just insane though.

first, what the hell is an FC?
second, stock cavalier doing 7s in the eighth? is that the 60 foot time? or do we need to convert that time from metric over to english units?

yea i guess i dont know shit about the 1/8th mile because last time i checked i thought 8-9 was moderate for an average street car, plus the 1st gen rx7 does have about 120hp? so a stock cavalier being ffaster isn't that much of a surprise, and i guess i'll break the news to the mazda techie that fc is refering to the fc3s chassis code for the 2nd generation rx7, fd3s or fd for many people is for the 3rd, and sa22c or sometimes people will call it the fb is for the first gen.

ahhh body codes.... im sure somewhere in the future that knowledge will be worthwhile. i still doubt the stock cavalier doing sevens in the eighth... shouldnt that be close to a sub-five second 0-60? or if you extrapolate into the quarter mile, around mid 12s?

I own a cavalier. I'm sure it'll do 12's in the 1/4 mile. As long as something much faster is pushing it. Like a top fuel car. :lol2: My friend was pushing around 190 hp with his setup (appx. and debatable) and also had an '87 TII car running 6's with a cracked block. Never saw a timeslip, but I did ride with him, once.

6's in the 1/8 translates to about 9's in the quarter
so your buddy has a SERIOUS 7 on his hands or this is total bs
your car would have to be a full on strip car

i started laughing because i thought he was referring to 1/4 mile he said earlier in the post, either one is ridicoulous, atleast for a street driven rx7.

There's no way he could have been doing 9's. I think he was pushing somewhere around 350 hp (just a guess.) he said it was like 6.8 in the 1/8.
I dunno. It's been a long while.

a 350hp 1st gen should be in the 12s at the very least, if not down to mid 11s
gigglesnirt
11-14-2005, 06:09 PM
350hp 1st gen? unlikely but i guess possible, considering it most likly would weigh about 2000lbs i would say since mine is around there, you would be getting somewhere around 5lbs per hp ratio? its just excessive it seems like and no way possible for a street driven rx7 with original engine, dunno if it would even be possible with diff engine to get that speed there is no way you would stick it.

He had traction issues with both cars.
