the clutch went soft in my 96 xj so i bled the fluid in hopes that it was just air in the line. when i looked in the pan when i had finished there were little bits of white debris in the fluid. i have narrowed this down to either the master or slave cylinder, but before i start tearing both apart, i am wondering if anyone knows which cylinder it's coming from.

Welcome to AF

Not sure what the master and slave cylinders materials are but corosion of aluminum is often white in color..

How big are the pieces??

Check the mastercylinder reservoir for "stuff".

they look like little shavings of plastic, not very big. i'm almost 100% certain it's from the piston in one of cylinders, but i'm not sure what color plastic is in each of the cylinders and therefore i'm not sure which one it's coming from. also, there doesn't appear to be any debris in the master reservoir.
