I'm gonna try to stay on top of this progress thread, and it should move pretty fast for the first week or so, as I've got some time free from tests and projects. Let's see what I can do!

ooh, that's a lot of work there....what color will they be?

I haven't built an Enzo yet...and you're knocking out two...hehehe...

99civichic
11-02-2005, 04:16 PM
At least one will be classic red, to match the owner's 1:1. I'm debating on doing my personal car in red...I really don't have any red models, so it would stand out.

Hope you have a good start!

Good luck on this one, Iīve yet to try building a Enzo, maybe someday...Well too bad you canīt complain about not having enough reference on this one, I often use that as an excuse to myself when nothing gets done :icon16:

Good luck!

looking good so far, keep us posted. One thing i would do differently would be not to paint the parts still on the trees.

Yes. Not a retarded question, I posted about the commission on this one about 4 months ago!

MidMazar - Thanks for that, I was wondering about that myself. I'll de-tree them before painting the color.

Well, I made a lot of progress and had a neat how-to on an accurate fuel injector wiring harness, but I'm having some difficulty uploading pics right now, so you'll have to wait until tomorrow.

When I say a lot of progress, I mean I have both engines assembled and painted, and one is almost fully wired.

...someone tell me how to link from imageshack please

99civichic

Okay, here's hoping this works.

To accurately wire the injectors:
First, I used a knife to mark off my max height to run the main harness.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/99civichic/enzo4.jpg

Then, I used a Sharpie to mark off the spacing between injectors.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/99civichic/enzo5.jpg

I used a smaller gauge wire to model the individual injector wiring. I tied it off with metallic thread, which I've found is stronger and smaller in diameter than normal thread. It's also easier to cut. Use superglue to secure the knot.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/99civichic/enzo6.jpg

Repeat 5x for the remaining injectors. Note that each new wire butts up to the last wire; this avoids a huge, tapering bulk at one end. It also lets you model the differing diameters in the wires, as each injector wire is crinkle wrapped.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/99civichic/enzo7.jpg

I attached the wiring harness to the piece using thread and superglue. Once the glue is dry, trim the wires and wrap them up underneath the existing fuel rail. It's not really important where you stick 'em so long as they stay stuck, since there aren't molded injectors.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/99civichic/enzo10.jpg

Here's my stopping point last night.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/99civichic/enzo8.jpg

And, as I promised a few months ago, here's how messy I work.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/99civichic/enzo9.jpg

Whumbachumba
11-04-2005, 04:04 PM
Not that messy of a worker, but you are in a very cramped space. I need to clean some stuff off my desk so I can spread out again. It's like 2 times larger than your main desk board, yet I have only 1/3 of it available to work in.

Awesome looking engine, can't wait to see these babies finished.

is that my computer you have there?????got to love the 1500 dollar dell inspiron 1100. after TTL it costs a fortune......aftre seeing that body of hte camaro sitting at your desk, and knowing you hacked off the SS scoop....what will you be doing with that body??

will69camaro
11-05-2005, 10:44 AM
Actually the camaro in the back ground is my model i'm making of my 1:1 Hugger Orange SS. She has 2-3 of the SS models and she'll probably build a drag car outa the one without a hood now :)

11-05-2005, 10:46 AM
Oh the inspiron is a 5150...too damn expensive! Especially since she had to replace the mother board not too long ago.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/99civichic/Enzo13.jpg

I decided to shoot one of these with the new Model Master Automotive Laquers in Italian Red. The jury is still out on this, there's a lot of orange peel and it was a bit hard to apply (my hands are pretty weak and I'm sensitive to high nozzle pressure on rattlecans) I can't find Tamiya sprays anywhere local. Not sure if I'll use the same paint on the other one...

I have the Enzo too and I still didn't have the guts to build it yet... The red turns out great despite the orange peel. A quick rub with a rubbing compound will make it smooth. Great start and good tips.

Quick how-to: Carbon-metallic brakes

Paint flat black. Allow to get "tacky." Cover with metallic grey (XF-56), allow to get "tacky." Dab with a paper towel. This will give you the textured look of carbon-metallic brakes! Yay.

How to: Heat resistant...stuff

So, it's late, I just did two of these, and I can't think of the name. Sue me. Are they done yet? :uhoh:

1) Rub aluminum foil on model mesh stuff. It came with the kit.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/238578enzo15.JPG

2) Superglue in sections to the "bulkhead."
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/238578enzo16.JPG

3) Repeat eleventy billion times.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/238578enzo17-med.JPG

4) Learn how to take decent pictures. Or sleep.

And on this, day 17 of the Enzo Dual Build Off, I'm through step 8. Of 33.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/238578enzo18-med.JPG

I still haven't made much of a mess

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/238578enzo19-med.JPG

And I'm very tired.

PS White97ex may want to pay attention to the upper left corner of the last picture...

Looks like I may have some time this weekend to work on this model. I won't be able to get very far because a) no CF decals and b) humidity 80%, temperature 40*. But, I may be able to piece together some fans or the like.
