rearend?

what rearend would work best for a boost in my take off for a 3.8

change out the gears with some 3.73's

or find a 4th gen camaro rear that is out of a manual car.

honestly, i wouldnt go any higher than 3.42 gears in a 3.8.. if you go with 3.73's with a stock/slightly modded car, not only will your car feel like a 4 cylinder when it gets to 3rd gear, you'll have horrible gas mileage to boot...

Honestly Kaotik that is completely groundless and a myth that has been proved wrong some time ago now, with 3.8s at least.

With that said, if you can find a disk brake rear out of an LT1 that has 3.42 gears then you will be happy. You will get a much better gear ratio, will have an LSD (put power to both wheels instead of just one), and the better brakes. However, if you have the Y87 option you already have a LSD, and possibly 3.42s depending on transmission. Look in the drivers door for that RPO code also any that start with a G and let us know.

Gas milage wont change (mine slightly went up for city driving... think about it, your engine doesnt have to work as hard to get you those short distances. gas milage going down is mainly reported for highway driving where you hold a steady RPM, with 3.42s and 245/50/16 tires I'm at 2700-ish RPM at 80 MPH). Keep in mine that you will need to have your pcm recalibrated for the new gears so that your speedometer is correct (I went ahead and go ta full tune done while I was at it, made a nice difference). This can be done via tuning or with a speedometer reprogrammer that you splice into the wiring harness.

im just going on what i've been told.. personally my car has 3.23 gears and those are just fine by me.. i just feel that if a stock 3.8 can handle 3.73 gears, wouldnt they come stock or at least in a performance package for the v6? as far as gas mileage, i always attuned it as the bigger ratio gears need more power, meaning you'd have to accelerate more to get that power.. meaning you'd be using more gas... although.. im not exempt from being wrong...

the only issue is your carrier, you will need a new one. 3.8 camaros autos have series two carriers which are smaller and will only support up to a 3.08. If you wanna go bigger you will need the series three carrier. IF you have a manual then knock yourself with some 3.73s.

If you do have an auto, I would recommend finding a z28 that rear ended someone and buy the complete rear end (bango and all) intact and just bolt it on

and liek I explained, the better acceleration helps city milage cuz you dont need to use as much gas to get to say 40 mph... highway is where it hurts because your cruising RPMS are raised. It's not too drastic tho
