HELP! 300hp+ Needed Which Engine Should I go with?

I just purchased an 84' 944 and want to put a 300hp+ engine in it!
I'm really looking for some great ideas on which and what engine to install in this. This will be a complete restoration of the vehicle, so Please give me some good info on what would best suit her!
I was thinking about an LS1 but I would rather have a 4cyl or 6cyl with a turbo. The best bang for the buck!
If I should sell this and purchase a turbo 944 than that's what I will do. I just figured since I bought the car for $1000 in good condition I figured i could take the money I saved and put it into the performance of the vehicle.

As stated in many other posts-BUY THE TURBO! Trust me by the time you fab up everything to fit and hit the 300 mark. You could have just bought a turbo and chipped it. 84 was not the best year anyway.

Well if you can afford the LS1 then that would own all. However I would buy the turbo.

I agree, go get a 951 and modify it. I've seen a 951 put down 500hp at the wheels (while having fuel problems).
