Okay So I Used To Have A 95 Sl And I Raced Some Guy From School That Has A 2nd Gen Rx-7 With A 2nd Or 3rd Gen Turbo Engine In It. Well He Burned Me Really Bad We Went From 10 Mph Roll An Dhe Beat Me Then To A 60mph Roll And We Would Beat Me. So Now I Have A 94 Vr4 I Want To Know If I Should Do It From A Roll Or Just A Dead Stop And Launch. The Only Think Is I Dont Want To Mess Up Anything On My Vr4 Btw His Car Runs 13.9 Or 13.8 At The Track With 10 Pounds Of Boost.

Well if hes running 13.8- 13.9 it should be a good race but you should beat him BY A decent amount, heres how you launch a vr4 take the rpm's to about 5500 - 6000 and dump the clutch quick but smooth, if yoou do it to fast you may bog down if you do it to sslow your clutch will explode. OH yea and race him from a stop and youll eat his lunch. One more thing welcome to AF.

don't redline the clutch and dump it, because that's where your biggest problem'll lie... I say take it up to about 3 or 4000 RPMS....

ohh btw, race him from a dig

Well if he only takes it to 3 or 4 he wont get nearly as good a launch as he wood from 5-6 it may even bog down at 3.

Alright Thanks Yeah I'm Gonna Do Some Practice Launch's From 3500 And Just Start Going Up From There. Btw He's 100% Stock I Have Borla Cat-back And A Filter And Greddy Bov Not That It Does Anything.

to 3kSL95... the only reason I said that is b/c the higher you dump the clutch the more chance you run of breaking your clutch, but you're right he'll get alot better of a launch if he does it from up there

Please don't launch your car... Here's a self-test you can do to see whether or not you should drop the clutch.

Stand still - Then, have a friend of yours run straight into you at full speed. If it hurts, then I'd say no, don't launch. If it doesn't hurt, then by all means, drop the clutch. =)

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just wanted to give you a real life example.

LOL, I love that example! I launched the car a few times, normally at around 5k or a bit better, just eased the clutch out very quickly. Once or twice I actually got a chirp out of the tires, but I don't recommend it...I just replaced my clutch. :disappoin

OK, not to be a prick, but perhaps somebody with an SL shouldn't be giving tips on how to launch a vr4. Our transfer cases are notoriously weak, and if you consistently dump your clutch at high rpms your chances of grenading your clutch or transfer case grow exponentially.

Yes dumping the clutch gives you an insane launch that is amazing to experience, however PLEASE don't think that is the way you should be consistantly doing it.

You have AWD, if you learn how to properly slip your clutch you will RAPE most anything out of hte hole.

Try and bounce your rpms between 3500 and 4000 and ease up on the clutch while applying gas. If you release too quickly you will bog, and if you go too slowly you will burn your clutch. You really just have to learn the feather point through practice. Try it at red lights at lower rpms and build your way up.

Remember continuous slipping, not straight dumping/dropping the clutch. A properly done slip will give you a strong steady accelerated pull...a dump will feel like a plane launch pinning you to the back of your seat.

Why does everyond have slow rice in their town? I cant find any in mankato. we have two civic hatches running over 500hp (one just dyno'd at 800hp+ 520lb/ft best time 11.01) and a couple turbo cavy's that run low 13's. a few turbo DSM'rs running 13's as well... there's a good mix of fast and slow rice (mostly fast though) so you never knwo what you're pulling up beside. we even have a 450hp supercharged BUICK gandma car!

I'm calling bullshit on that civic with 800+hp and running 11s... He should be running faster than that man.... and don't underestimate the powers of a buick... ever heard of the grand nationals??? those are turbo'd buicks and those things are monsters

Good point on the civic. With that type of power to weight ratio, he'd be able to kill...well, pretty much anything. As far as it being streetable...only with an engine the size of a small tank to keep the damn front wheels on the ground.
