rear drivers window down

Hi- My rear drivers side power window isn't operating. I have taken the interior door panel off and discovered the cable is not in the track. After putting the cable in place the motor is not activating to raise or lower the window. Please suggest what to check before I buy a motor.

If the motor is still turning then it is probably your window regulator (cables and track).
