Hey guys.
I just found that rare little nugget at an automotive memorabellia store! The shop was relocating so I snapped up the 3 copies of the tape to share with u guys. At around 14 bucks a pop i thought it was pretty reasonable...
If you guys are interested let me know, I'll put em up on eBay soon.
Cheers!

Are they PAL or NTSC? I own a PAL copy that I had converted to NTSC, but would rather have a real NTSC copy if I could get one.

Also, I was thinking... depending on how many of you are interested... I'm thinking of sending the tape (before it gets mouldy or degrades from playback) in its new condition to a local video archive store that'll run the tape through their enhancement algorithms and press it onto a DVD... If enough of you are interested I'll split the cost of this (50 Bucks i think) with all of you and I'll burn copies for you guys. You just have to reimburse me for the dvdr, postage and the shared cost of conversion.
I'll start the ball rolling:

What exactly is on the DVD and how much will it all cost? How long is the video length?
Peloton25
11-02-2005, 01:29 PM
Admittedly, I haven't watched it in a while so the details are a bit fuzzy.
The video is about 1 hour long and starts off with the story of the F1, an interview of Gordon and shots inside the factory. It leads into the story of the GTR and then eventually centers on the trip to LeMans. It really is a great video from start to finish and I think anyone reading this forum regularly would definitely get something out of it.

Stokedxiv, hey glad my offer encouraged someone new to register:)
Okay. I think we have sufficient interest now. Here's how it'll go...
I'll have the tape converted on Friday if time permits and I should have the working dvd sometime during the weekend. I'll see what kind of package he'll offer regarding any enhancements to the picture, but I do know for certain that the soundtrack will be in stereo (which is rare for VHS). In the meantime, more people can feel free to add their names to the list. Once I have the master DVD copy, I'll go out and get a few good quality dvd-rs (I'll use -R instead of +R 'cos they're more compatible with all types of dvd players) and the disc will be region free.
Afterwhich I'll post up my costs including shipping to the major regions on earth. Since its just a dvd, it shouldn't be much more than sending a nice thick postcard. (I think)
I'll accept contributions via PayPal cos i think its the most convenient... and I don't really subscribe to any other means of online payment. If there are any issues, or you dont have Paypal, then we'll play it by ear and work something out.
ALSO, (this is perfect timing, in my opinion), my cousin just came back from Hong Kong and she knows my love for Mclaren. She picked up a HK car mag at some obscure magazine shop (I love finding obscure stuff) and it features the yellow Mclaren F1 in japan. I forget the chassis number but it has appeared on this forum.. its the one with the interior still wrapped in the shipping material. Anyway, here's the cool part. The mag comes with a VCD that features a really cool 10 minute segment that focuses on the car and has clips of the yellow-corn gtr lapping a track. Its not very long and the commentary is in Mandarin but its cool nontheless. If you guys want, I can burn a copy of this vcd too... esp since CDrs are less than a buck a piece. The vcd is over an hr long and features other jap racing street cars but the Macca feature is I'm sure what interests you guys most. Heck, if I'm free and can find a scanner, I'll try to include scans of the mag article too.
Let me know what you all think. Might as well milk the shipping price for all its worth, imho...

First was wondering what the shipping costs would be from downunder. Ordered a cap from Germany once and it wound up costing me more to ship and pay. Will you take a money order instead of paypal (don't use ebay or paypal) so have to come up with an alternate pay method. Would like a copy if the price for the burn and shipping are not too much. Thanks for undertaking the effort. You can PM me with the price if you have an idea about what the cost would be (including shipping).
Thanks

Oh... and for those reading along who might be on the fence here - I found a much better description for the "McLaren at LeMans" video than the one I was able to drum up:
McLaren at LeMans: Pursuit of Perfection
The story of the stunning victory of the McLaren F1 GTR in the 1995 LeMans 24 Hour race as told by the official McLaren Cars video. Designer Gordon Murray explains the features of the revolutionary McLaren F1 road car, then it's off to LeMans. The Dave Price and Lanzante Motorsport McLarens are profiled along with driver JJ Lehto. Race coverage is unique and spectacular. Miniature 'lipstick' cameras mounted in the winning car give us unique angles never before seen in racing videos.
Sit back and enjoy.
The more of us who get in on the DVD, the cheaper it will be for all. If you haven't seen the movie I promise you'll want to.

That's pretty good. I like the neon-lit, garish lighting in this pic. Makes it quite surreal and focuses the eye on the McLaren nicely.

I've gotten started on cleaning up the jagged edges in that shot (even though I said I wasn't going to...) and so far, so good. It won't be perfect when I finish, but it will certainly be less noticeable and make for a better quality shot.

Hey guys. We might have to wait a little longer. It turns out that the videotape has the most sophisticated copy protection available for VHS tapes... The image comes out b&w. One option is to route it through a PC and remove it via software but that defeats the purpose of using his super expensive rig. So the dude suggested I wait a little while and he'll order in a device that will circumvent it.
He said he won't charge extra so I gave him the go ahead. Only downside is a slightly longer wait 'cos he's getting the part from Germany. I figured its no worries, right? Afterall, this vid is not "current news" or anything that might expire soon.
I'll keep you guys updated, promise:)
What a pain in the ass! No wonder this video isn't floating around in digital form...

Alrighty. I got someone to duplicate em for me 'cos my burner produces read errors (yup, I test each DVD) and only burns at 1x (1st-gen Apple superdrives).
I'll be PM'ing everyone to confirm your address and the final postage+handling costs.
Don't forget to let me know if you guys want the Yellowcorn+Yellow F1 vcd too.
I hope to get this endeavour done by the end of this week and you guys get your dvd in time for an early Christmas:)

Hey everyone:)
The guy who did my Dvd was quite apologetic about taking so long... and guess what? He's a Mclaren F1 fan too! He's got this huge clinic model poster. gorgeous. taken at the quarry during the photoshoot for the official book.
anyway he gave me a complimentary copy (in divx) of martin brundle's supercars (has a nice long section dedicated to a silver f1 with hdf kit). I won't say anything more, but PM me if you've got qns. I'll pass it on since you guys waited as long as I did.

Is it a poster, or more of a print? Because I have this - I believe at the time I got it, the seller referred to it as a serigraph. It's printed on very nice paper, and my version happens to be signed by Murray, Stevens, and Curwood (the photographer) and is also numbered out of 500 I believe.

I still need to get it framed, and have been toying with the idea of using a real piece of carbon fiber as the matting material. Even thin sheets are around $70 USD though, so that adds quite a bit to the price of framing.

mini magic - I can do it if you can bother to send copies of the tape to me...
As for why I said "qns"... well... *ahem* I was advised to be a little more discreet *ahem* :)
Erik - YES~ That's the exact one that he has! It was hung on his wall quite high up so I didn't see if it was signed or not but the imagery is identical. It could be a reprint though because his copy was close to movie poster size.
