who knows 302 transmissions?

Hi, this isnt quite a mustang question, but i figuered u guys might know somethin bout this.
my dad has a jeep wagoneer with a 302 in it, his problem is, it has an automatic 3 speed transmission (4x4 too). and he wants something more drivable in the freeway, a 4 speed, or overdrive. do you guys know if and what can be done?

by the way, i went to a transmissions shop today and they told me they didnt even know if it could be done, and then they told me it could, but it would be a bitch, and it would be better to just buy a new wagoneer.

Well you probably have either a C4 or possibly a C6 in there. You could change it out to an aod but it would be a :swear:

i think that year trucks came with a c6 so thats what it prolly has, well... gettin that out of the way, how much would u think changing the gears would help? (i dont even know what it has right now)

he probaly has 2.73's

so then what could i go with? 2.50somethin? i dont think therell be much difference, do they even make em?

no they dont make 2.50's i think 2.73's r the lowest gears they make. and they higher u go like 3.73's and 4.10's the faster ur car will be.

yeah, i know that, thats why since u said it prolly has 3.73's i was thinkin bout somethin lower. i dont think therell be any big difference anyways. i think its just too much work and prolly not even worth it, thanx for everything anyways

i said he probaly had 2.73's and gears r definatly worth the money. id get new gears...

i meant the whole transmission swap, not the gear swap, i know the gear swap is worth it. (at least on a stang)
but what i also meant is that gears prolly wont do what my dad is expecting the truck to do. thanx
