Thanks in advance for your help!
If my timing belt is approaching the end of its life, will the check engine light remind me?
Again, thanks. GO WHITE SOX!

Nope, you usually don't get much warning. It just sort of "goes". If you are N/A, don't worry about it. Chances are much less likely, and they are slim to begin with.

Check and see how tight the belt is and worn out and etc. Plus if you know the last date it was done you should know whether or not you need a change. Don't wait to do it like I did b/c my belt slipped on me and a rebuild cost me a shit load. There's no warning of any kind...it sort of just slips :uhoh:

No. Don't listen to that crap. A snapped tbelt is never a good thing, N/A or not. If it breaks, you risk bent valves, which means expensive head work. That being said, it should last at least 100,000 miles with no problems. I've changed mine twice. 1st time at 80,000 miles, when the old one still looked new. The second time was at 194,000miles. It was pretty cracked and worn and I'm glad I caught it before it broke.

I was referring more to crankwalk, but I guess that wasn't really the question. After reading t-belt posts over and over and over again, that's usually the subject. Change the belt every 60k, not 100k.

I replace mine every 50K, but i'm paranoid...
CEL wont show for a slipping belt. It only comes on when a catalyst efficiency harming fault code gets set. Or a body code.

I agree. Mitsu picked the right number when they said 60k, the thing often breaks very soon after. I'm speaking about the 4g63.
There's no reliable way of knowing when it's going to go before it does. In the 2g both the turbo and n/t models run an interference style head. That means if the belt snaps you buy new valves.
I had a belt that slipped once after I had the dealer replace it, when I first got the car. All bad.

I Just had my timing belt slip. Only had like 7000 Km's on it. Was a Brand new head on the car to, and a refreshened bottom end. Haven't really looked into it much though, been to busy. But there's no compression. So I'm guessing the valves are all bent to shit, or the ring's are shot.
