It depends on what is wrong. If it's the pump, they aren't too expenisive. If it's a line, it probably is more expensive then it should be, but probably not too bad. If it's the rack, ouch, probably quite expensive.
Can you tell where the leak is coming from?

seems to be near the passanger side tire. not too far from the oil pan, i believe its the oil pan (sorry cant be to sure not used to this truck at all.) rear of the engine. im going in an hour to have it looked at. my old mans mechanic said it might be my high pressure hose for the power steering. the worst thing of all this is it wise fine b4 i got my hands on it lol.

ok so gotta change the whole hose for power steering 150$cdn or i can bypass it but then the fluid wont cool off, oil pan is leaking as well, and so is something from the top of the motor which i will only find out friday what it is. boo! kinda sucks.

Mine did same last spring. The metal pipe along the front frame was rusted. THis is the return leg from the rack and pinion to the "cooler" (the pipe simply runs a loop along the front cross beam and returns to pump) so there is no pressure. I cut the damaged piece - about 15 inches - and jumped the two parts with a flexible hose and 2 collars. Total price: under 10$. I would have used a piece of copper tubing if it had been longer . $150 is overkill.

Mr garage man told me if i cut it like you did it would be fine for this winter but a good chance of it getting to hot come spring and summer. i was under there today thinking about playing doctor and bypassing the cooling part. all in all decided to take a bite out of my wallet and have a full inspection done on friday, including engine wash and all to see exactly where the other leaks are coming from. I do agree the 150 bucks is pure bs for the part alone.

so I did it all on my own! bought 100 inches of pipe and bent it all and voila works like a charm. total cost 15 bucks!
