We went to Bluegrass Raceway Park (www.bluegrassracewaypark.com (http://www.bluegrassracewaypark.com)) in Owingsville, KY yesturday. First time we'd ever been to the track, man is it smooth as silk and it hooks. It's an NHRA member track, 1/8th mile long and did I mention it was silky smooth AND hooked up awesome?
Anyways, I got 4 runs, 2 time runs and 2 rounds of competition. Broke out both times (the first by 2 ten thousandths of a second!). So I never even won a round, lol. My uncle only got 3 runs, but he did win his 1st round but he's got car problems now. Warped head, maybe even cracked.
My runs for the day:
1st
-RT: .5140
-60': 1.6001
-330': 4.7890
-594': 6.9939
-1/8: 7.4909
-mph: 90.55
2nd
-RT: .4821 (foul)
-60': 1.6100
-330': 4.8049
-594': 7.0239
-1/8: 7.5190
-mph: 90.90 (new best)
I rolled into the lights to deep that time. That's why I redlit and my ET went down. My mph went up, but I think that's because I woudl have been on a pretty good pass.
1st round eliminations
-Index: 7.49
-RT: .5140
-60': 1.5959 (wow, 1.5s 60'-I didnt think I'd EVER see those again untill I did some engine surgery!)
-330': 4.7791
-594': 6.9909
-1/8: 7.4898 (breakout)
-mph: 90.20
Broke out by .0002 seconds! I was so mad, mainly at my self! I could have lifted but just didn't, lol. I mean I could see the other car ,but I knew I was goign to beat him to the line. In my defense, he was Dialed 5.52, lol, and he ran 121 mph! In other words, he was coming fast! Regardless, I lose, he wins so I have to pay $30 to get back in the race, lol.
2nd round eliminations
-Index: 7.48
-RT: .521
-60': 1.5780 (I was shocked-new best)
-330': 4.7402 (new best)
-594': 6.9388 (new best)
-660': 7.4359 (new best)
-mph: 90.52
Not only did I break out by nearly 5 hundreths, but I broke out by 5 hundredths AND ran 3 hundredths more mph (vs. the previous run) while LIFTING at the mph lights (594' mark)! The other car had throttle stop issues (he said) and while I didnt know this during the race, I knew he wasn't there with me on the big end so I just lifted completely at the mph lights and coasted through the lights. I mean the car fell flat on its face and I just knew I had that race in the bag-untill his win light came on anyways, lol!
Oh well, lol. It was still fun and I really can't believe that little 355 had a 1.57 60', lol. And before my uncle's motor went south, he cranked out a 1.32 60' and a 6.19 @ 112 mph pass, lol. That's pretty awesome for a small block.

Yeah really, especially for a small block in a door slammer. And what's even more amazing about it is that both heads where warped when it done that (we didnt know that at the time), lol. I mean the motor locked up 2 runs later, lol. I bet it'll go 1.29 and about 6.ohs once he finally gets it lined out. That's amazing for a small block! I mean it is a 406 and it does have 12.5:1 pistons and Brodix heads with 2.08/1.6 valves. So its built right, but its still a small block in a door slammer!

Well I never got the chance to run it in an 1/8th mile. It blowed up the weekend before I was planning to go to a different track, lol. Oh well. However, my best ever run was 1.480 60' and 4.403 in the 330 and I lifted on that pass. My best 60' with it was 1.464 though. That came from where I normally race. And to give ya and idea of how much better this track that we were at Sunday hooks: the weekend before, my best 60' was 1.64 at my local track and Sunday, I had that 1.57. Even on a good day at my local track it would only do like 1.63s, maybe 1.62s.
Same was true for my uncle's car. His best 60' at our local track was 1.41. He had a 1.32 Sunday, so he gained almost a tenth!
So just guessing, my car would have ran atleast 6.80s with my 406, but probably more like 6.70s. That's not blazingly fast, but it is a pretty good ride. This spring, I'm gonna build that 406 back to where it'd run 6.60s, maybe even 6.50s though.
I know I'm rambling here on ya, but the motor in my uncle's car used to be in mine (before I drove) and it had a 1.46 60' at our local track and ran 4.26 in the 330 (usually good for 4.30-4.33 though). Like I said before, his car with that same exact motor, runs 1.41s and 4.0hs at our local track (that's the weight difference in the two cars, plus his has a professional frame where mine is home made). So I figure if I build my 406 like his, it'll maybe run 6.50s in my car (considering it runs 6.teens in his). And that's really what I'd like for it to run in an 1/8th. Nowhere close to being the fastest car in the class, but fast enough to still be able to spot some people and fast enough so that only the sub 6 second cars can really shake ya on the big end.
