I have had the check engine light on and i ended up going to a firestone shop to try and get it diagnosed and cleared. They said they could not find the problem and that i should take it to a dealer. They reset the light but said it came right back on. Here is the codes that it spit out but they said they couldnt find anything wrong. faulty evap vent solenoid, plugged kinked or pinched vent hose, shorted evap vent driver circuit, plugged evap canister. What does this mean and what should i do. is there anyway to clear the light.

according to the codes, it's pretty obvious that the canister isn't venting so either the hoses could be stopped up, or it could be the solenoid that controls the vent may be shorted or possibly the wires got chaffed or pinched. Did they test the solenoid with an ohm meter and try to apply power to it and listen for a audible click? That'd be my first test.

i dont think so they told me to take it to a dealer and thats it. is this something that could turn into a costly repair.

no, it should be reasonably cheap. What year, make, model is your vehicle, and what engine. I'll try to come up with a evap. scematic to make things easier.

I'm not sure if there is any difference in the '96 and '98 vacuum layout, but i found a diagram that may help out

you might get the light to go off by unhooking battery cable pos and clean and hook back up
