305 question

If i were to get my 305 rebuilt and put forged piston and a mild street cam in it would there be a fairly good power increase. i just got to wondering because it has 130some thousand miles on it, but it runs pretty strong as it is. And 3or 4 months ago the place where my dad works burnt down and my dad tools where there(about $35000 worth of tools were in it) well some of the tools are all right and he said that if i clean them and get a box i could have them which is pretty cool except the warranty on the is gone on them. but i guess it is a alright garage set that i dont have to worry about. they were all snap-on. and he got all new ones, becuase it was covered on the insurance.

If you're going to build a 305, invest in a set of World SR/Torquer 305 heads. Else, throw a 350 in there.

forged pistons don't make power, they just hold up better to a lot of power, like forced induction. If you play your cards right you can make that 305 a powerhouse. Don't waste you time/money on the World heads, they don't flow good at all, they're overrated. Take a look at the Brodix IK200's, they're what I got, they're aluminum, so they're lighter and have 200cc intake runners, they have very good flow ratings as well, and they're not much more than the world heads. They also have 64cc combustion chambers so that'll make the 305's compression go down a bit, but if you're having the block rebuilt, that would mean machining it, so you can just have the head surface decked to bring the compression back up a bit, and with some higher compression pistons you'll be right back where you need to be. all the thoughts came out kinda random, i hope they make sense when you read em.

wont 200cc chambers be overkill for a 305? I wouldnt think that would be neccessary unless of course he makes the 305 into a drag motor or build the motor to rev high.

Very much so. For a 305 you'd want a 175 or 180 cc intake runner.
