finally decided i needed to catch up on all the things i had to do to the tib before i started adding more stuff to the list. its really slow going what with school and my two other jobs right now, but im able to fit in a good couple days on the weekends. though it might be interesting for other people to see what pics i can take along the way.

my chariot while the tib is down:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0410.jpg

it actually rides quite nicely(big difference from the coilovered tib) and gets decent gas mileage. but god damn i cant wait to get the tib back on the road. the truck is SLOW, primarily because i dont want to rev it anywhere near 3k. it has 130k miles on it, is a ford, and is not mine and i dont want to pay for anything that breaks. so ive been driving like a grandma lately.

anywho, this is the list of things that will be accomplished by the end of it all:

1. sound deadening
2. internal, amplified radio antenna
3. alarm w/remote start and following features:
keyless entry
hatch pop
sunroof/window roll up and down
2 closed loop sensors
backup battery
9 tone siren
interior piezo pain generating siren(hurts bad)
shock sensor
tilt sensor
microwave(proximity) sensor
glass break sensor
many more that i cant think of now
4. seat heaters(to be activated by alarm as well as switch probably)
5. complete led fogs and tails using premade breadboards, not led bulbs.
6. All lights will be leds(except HIDs)
7. make new courtesy light covers using a plastic molding and casting kit.
8. re-route washer fluid lines and squirters to wiper cowl(dont want to drill through my new cf hood ;) )
9. two additional interior fuse blocks. one ignition, one constant.
10. retint windows. kinda messed up my first time around. cut a little to much off in some spots, never did complete hatch glass(after trying 3 different cut-outs). first one wasnt even close, second ended up wrapping back on itself before i even got it out to the garage, third was really close, but i didnt make the little "fingers" small enough, and i couldnt shrink them enough to make em flat. having to remove tint residue from the hatch glass once before, i quickly tore it off before it could dry and decided i would give it another try some other day.
11. 1.8l ecu. i do have one, not to sure if ill put it in yet.
12. hidden garage door opener somewhere in the car. picked up a tiny switch for it, thinking glovebox would be a good spot.
13. shark spoiler i still have to mold further and paint(will attempt with rattle can). it will have a blue and red brake light, with a switch i can change that will also be fore the red/blue tails i will have. :sasmokin:
14. bunch of other random led/neon things here and there. def. wont over-do it though, im starting to lose grips with the ricey side of me.
15. paint a bunch of things. so far, wiper cowls and door panels glossy black(had rest of interior glossy black, just never got to driver side panel). spark plug cover and front SB a much nicer shade of blue than i had before. considering painting the actual wiper arms too.
16. autodimming, compass, and temperature rear-view mirror. dims everything to a nice shade of blue, its sweet.

i think thats all. now on to the things ive done so far(with pics) along with picture of things still to come...
i decided to rip everything out to make the whole process easier:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0386.jpg
everything out, and surface cleaned:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0395.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0396.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0397.jpg

and front bumper because i had to swap out a bad ballast on my HID kit:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0378.jpg

the graveyard of parts everywhere:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0411.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0412.jpg
now the sound deadening. im using edead v1. 120 sq ft. for 100 bucks on ebay. i couldnt pass it up. i still have to cover a bunch more spots. its going slow b/c i dont want to cover any wires up and getting the f***ing clips out that hold the wire bundles to the body is a HUGE PITA. taking off every crew and then putting it back in means about 200 screws in all. i seperated all in nice little baggies and labeled them though :lmao: . I have already layed down about 75 sq. feet one layer everywhere, and then ill go back and hit the layers that i think still need it. i ripped that peice of shit heat cover(the one around the shifter assembly) out too. i was using a heat gun to soften the edead and decided i would test the crap. it friggin MELTED.

so ive covered the entire floor, and most of the sides and roof. still have to do doors and hatch. i MIGHT do the firewall, but thats gonna be a pain.

pics:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0415.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0416.jpg

also did the sunroof:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0409.jpg

but then i realized that when i got everything bolted back together, you could see some of the silver backing from behind, as the interior cover is only so big. so i gave it a couple quick coats of primer and paint, and now its barely noticeable:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0417.jpg

painted a few peices here and there:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0420.jpg

and the hyundai keyless entry brain i took out, alongside a DEI alarm that i guess the previous owner had installed. i guess ground was just cut off from it. in fact, writing this post i am remembering a very odd ground screw and crimp terminal without any wire running to it. solves that mystery...
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0402.jpg

uh yeah, thats all for now. snapped two bolts today, kinda pissed about it. one is the mounting stud for the top part of the sunroof(yeah, bad. hope there is no vibration and that the other 3 hold good enough). other is the bolt that holds the metal center console bracket(right inbetween the front seats; the thing the console screws into) to the body of the car. anyway, figured i would post up some pics, maybe give some people ideas. also thought it would be good to split things up, i will have tons of pics at the end and probably wouldnt have felt like taking the time to make a super huge post. this was long enough. ill probably be updating this thing every sunday, after i get done a good chunk of stuff.

wow thats amazing. how much money are you thorowing into this thing overall??

tibby01
10-31-2005, 05:22 PM
overall, or just this stuff?

most of this stuff is cheap DIY type stuff. all of this mentioned above is definately less than 1k total, even with the cf hood and spoiler.

all in all, id say im up around 3k spent on the car. coilovers and sway bars are my two largest purchases so far.

well, the adhesion is great, and it definately wont be pulling off in extreme heat or cold. dipped down to the thirties one night and it held on fine. ive been using a heat gun to really soften it up before putting it on, and after it dries in place the heat gun just makes it really hot.

the only other brand i was considering was fatmat. dynamat just sucks and is overpriced, and bquiet is just to expensive. this was a bit lighter than fatmat, and a ton cheaper.

tibby01
11-16-2005, 10:29 PM
make music sound better, eliminate road/wind/engine noise, get rid of any rattles.

What ideas do you have for the stereo? I sound deadened my whole tibby also and put in 1 12" diamond tdx in a fiberglass enclosure with 2 diamond 1500.1 amps running it. can hear it from a couple blocks away

nothing yet, im fresh out of money and snowboarding season is quickly coming.

id like eventually get infinity equipment. 2 10' kappas with a mono sub, and then kappa component all the way around with a seperate amp. i think i will go for some more speed before that though.

got some more, im just going to copy and paste any big updates i didnt post here before...

-----------------------------------------------

getting through the alarm right now. i have all the sensors mounted right now. the absolute hardest part of this project is finding space to stick the alarm brain, remote start brain, 2 window modules, tilt sensor, microwave sensor, closed loop sensors, shock sensor, glass break sensors, backup battery, piezo siren, regular siren, 2 additional fuse blocks, and enough wiring to circle the earth. twice.

not to mention the insane amount of grounds i need for things. plus, im trying to keep things neat under there incase i need to get to something. not so sure thats going to happen though.

but i have been making progress. here are some pics...

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0726.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0727.jpg

and a sneak peak of something else i have in the works. total cost so far: $232.07.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0722.jpg

------------------------------

so the alarm is all hooked up, still working some bugs out of it though. seems like when i get one thing worked out 3 more come up with it. did grab a couple pictures of some things.

box of spare snipped off wires:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/th_DSCN0736.jpg (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0736.jpg)

hood pin switch:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/th_DSCN0735.jpg (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0735.jpg)

how to get remote start on a manual car(using a magentic reed switch). it also makes it so that i only have to push the clutch in to start if its in gear. its wired so that it directly bypasses the stock clutch safety switch, and is only switched closed when the shifter returns to its neutral spot.:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/th_DSCN0733.jpg (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0733.jpg)

a shot of all the new wires in. you compare it with one an earlier pics:

before:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/th_DSCN0620.jpg (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0620.jpg)

after:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/th_DSCN0732.jpg (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0732.jpg)

---------------------------------

oh yeah, and i would love to take more pictures, but im just tired of trying to make sure i get a snapshot here and there.

i can definately type some stuff up though.

alarm is in and working great. windows roll up when car arms. remote hatch pop w/ aftermarket solenoid. window roll down via remote button. i still need to find a spot for th ebackup battery however. im pressed for places to put everything. remote start on my manual AND i do have a picture of that. i also have another remote output that turns on my haloz and underground lights. pic of my remote start solution. its a magnetic reed switch that bypasses the clutch safety switch only when the shift lever springs back to its neutral position. i dont know of anyoine else who has ever done it.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0755.jpg

going through all this i realized that i never want to have to rip out the interior ever again. so i went overboard and bought everything ill ever want ice wise for the car(which is quite a lot)...

im going to be doing the carputer thing(fonseca, java, and pudge got me hooked!). everything is purchased, and it will be able to do all of the common tasks imaginable. gps, xm radio, 100gb worth of music and movies, tv, fm radio, touchscreen, wifi, bluetooth, dvd rom, blue el keyboard in the driver visor, and the list goes on. im also booting xp off of a compact flash card. ;)

i will have 5.1 sound in the car too. i purchased 2 sets of some polk audio 6.75" component speakers. up front the tweeters are going in the little triangle panels covering the sideview mirror bolts. got done molding them tonight and just have to sand and then paint. i made up some nifty speaker adapters for the 6.75" fitting in the 6x9 stock spot out of some sheet metal. im going to take a picture of those cause im damn proud of them. all 4 will be driven by a 4 channel amp, connected to the carputer with 5.1 sound. i have a mono sub amp which will be driving 2 mtx 10" subs as well. so yeah, 0 gauge wire is running to the back, with a 10 farad cap. im hoping i wont have to spend extra on a HO alternator.

um, so yeah. plans have changed by about 2 grand...lol

if anyone would like pictures of things, please ask.

-------------------------------------------

pictures for everyone!

2 amps. mono sub on top, 4 channel one for components on bottom. 420RMS for the sub amp, and 300RMS total for the 4 sets of components. that red will be replaced by blue too. ;)

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/dscn0774.jpg

location of rear component tweeters. used the flush mounts that came with the components for these.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/dscn0775.jpg

10 farad cap for the system. i have plans for a semi-elaborate trunk setup. it will contain the amps, cap, subs, and distribution blocks, but still have enough room for a hockey bag.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0776.jpg

pish-posh to running wire loom through the door jam. that shits wack. you can fit as many wires as you will need through the stock harness/rubber loom. i have 6 14 gauge wires running through it.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/dscn0777.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0778.jpg

random usb/serial cables that need to be ran for the CarPC.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0779.jpg

component woofers mounted in the front speaker baskets, along with the beer of choice for the day.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0781.jpg

the 6.75" obviously dont fit in the 6x9 spot, so i made some adapter plates out of some sheet-metal we had lying around. traced the stock 6x9 outline, and then cut it out. cut out a circle for the woofer, layed some edead on the adapter plate, and then painted it black so it wouldnt look funny through the rear grills. i also lined the bottom of the ring of the woofer with some rubber lining, to help eliminate any noise between the speaker and plate. they are a little flimsy, so i might have to ditch em if itheymakes noise. would kind of piss me off, i spent a lot of time on them. i think ive taken every precaution to get rid of it though. plus, how much more sturdy can some thin abs plastic plates that crutchfield sells be?

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0798.jpg

picture of the crossovers for the components. the ones for the fronts will go in the map pocket of the door panel. for the rears, im going to screw them into the floorboard, right under the overhanging lip of the rear seat cushion. wires will be running back up underneath the seat. i dont want them sticking out in the open, but i want to be able to see them and get to them without taking anything off. i might move the ones for the rears somewhere, but for now, thats where im planning on putting them.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0795.jpg

0 gauge power wire(will split into two 4 gauge for each amp), 14 gauge speaker wire for components, total of 6 rca wires to the carpc, and 12 gauge speaker wires will be used for the subs. not everything is in the pic obviously. also a shot of the battery and the 0 gauge running through the fender.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0780.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0783.jpg

distribution blocks. ground and then power.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0784.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0785.jpg

this thing is cool. im going to use it to mount the shark spoiler, since the stock mounting has been eliminated so that the spoiler can fit to the rd2 hatch. it is a rivet tool, but it rivets a threaded collar into things. second picture shows a normal collar to the right of a collar that i test riveted in nothing.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0787.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0788.jpg

tweeter location for the front components=in the side view mirror interior cover things. im using urethane bumper repair. works great for working with plastics(adhesion is really good), and sands&cuts easily. i took the tweeter surface mounts and stuck them in place with a light amount of the 2 part "epoxy". then i spread it around and let it dry. you can see pre-sanded in the second picture. this one glopped up on me quicker than i thought it would because last time i worked with it the temperature outside was ~40degrees and it took forever to set. today was about 70, so in 5 minutes it hardened almost instantly. i might have to add a little bit more epoxy in there before i can start painting it. im pretty much done sanding/shaping the other one. couple shots of primer, glossy black, and some clear and it will look great with my dash.

HAHA, wont be needing this anymore(or any hu for that matter). look for it in the FS forum soon.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/tibby01/DSCN0796.jpg

well, thats all for now. just bought 2 infinity kappa perfect 10" subs and ill be sure to take a picture of those when i get them. things are going good though with the nicer weather, and i can see good progress every day im able to work on it(full time student + 2 jobs...ughhh). im having fun though again, and thats what its all about. one more dos equis for the night and im getting some rest.

------------------------------

GAH! CarPC pictures. almost forgot....

not much of a carpc right now as it is a home mini pc, but here they are:

Wow. Thats crazy. Great work, I have to give you your props. I installed a simple Crimegaurd alarm in my car, that all I have is interior light sensors and door sensors, and hood and trunk sensors, and it took me 3 days to install it. But my car is a DSM though.... Anyways great work again. I dynamated my car, but only the trunk. You just went all out. Keep us poosted with updates.
