94 civic dx speedometor problems

i have a 94 civid 4dr manual, the speedometer randomly works

sometimes it works fine, sometimes the needle bounces all over the place and sometimes it lays at zero

any ideas would be appreciated

if its the speedometer sensor, where is it? how do i identiy it?

It is on the top of your tranny...to the left of the starter.
It is that or your speedo head.

if the CEL isn't on its more than likely not the speed sensor. I have a working speedo with 128k on it. if your interested let me know. Its out of a 95 DX

I had the same problem on my 94 Dx too. I just brought it in to the local dealer and had them fix it. I'm not into fixing electrical things, but its been working great since I got it fixed.
