absolutely unknown cars

hey guys, long time no see,
i used to check this site out from the beginning, but i no longer have the time to contribute, but i still check here once or twice a week...
i completely lost the total picture of all 105 cars, to much chassis numbers to store in my mind these days, but i was wondering, what are the cars we know absolutely nothing about? do they still exist?
i'm just curious about the total picture, maybe one of you has time for the effort of making an updated chassis list, i would love to see it sometimes
regards and keep up the good work

Hey Maarten - good to see you back. I trust you've been keeping up pretty well with your visits.
You can't come in here and ask the toughest question that there is after not being around though. It was your job to maintain "the list", remember. ;) :p
I actually don't keep a list, though I probably should. I know that Chris does so maybe he'll spill his guts here. We haven't discovered a lot of new cars since you've been out of the game, so I wouldn't expect your old list to be horribly out of date.

i've always visited this place, but time keeps me from seeking info on the web, and money keeps me from buying memorabilia, although i almost had the carbon fiber air intake in my possession, i loved that thing.
i know my list is probably still ok, although some cars have other chassis numbers that we first thought, silver us cars and so on. Just a percentage of how many of the cars we know stuff about is something of a rating as to how much we know... u agree?

I do agree.
I think we have about half of them squared away. It could be less, and some of the info we have could be outdated.

I'm currently making a "new" list. I'm doing it in word instead of access so its incomplete right now. I don't have any cars that weren't mentioned here. I still think its a pretty good list.

My list probably isn't as complete as it should be, but here are cars that are completely left blank comment wise: 004, 005, 006, 013, 020, 023, 025, 029, 031, 033, 039, 043, 046, 048, 050, 052, 057, 059, 060, 063, 066, and 070. Only 22 cars! We really have a hell of a lot of info here. If anybody has some notes on any of the numbers I listed (owner name, repaint, license plate, location, HDF kit, crashed, etc.) please let me know.

You can definitely scratch #020 off your list - that is the Tony Smith car - dark grey, red stripe, HDF Kit. Used in several recent TV programs on the F1 including 5th Gear's - The Worlds Greatest Cars. For a long time, we had this car mistaken for #002 instead. :uhoh:
#025 was definitely George Harrison's car. I have been told his family still has that car contrary to rumors on the internet that it was sold to Eric Clapton.
I'm nearly certain that #043 is this car (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=3525853&postcount=71), as noted in the Japan recap thread the other day.
The theory is that this F1 (http://www.autotitre.com/forum/up/f82275523c.jpg) wearing the 'R66 MCL' plate is chassis #059 - and right now I am inclined to believe that is true.
#070 is also covered in the Japan recap thread. Initially my idea was that it could be #010, but others thought the chassis plate read #070. I've decided that I agree, and Chris also mentioned that there was no signature near the chasiss plate, which it would supposedly have if it were #010.

Was this something that came to you while you were sleeping? I don't recall us discussing this one. :dunno:

Actually, I dug a little deeper on both of these...
I believe this car is in the UK. It was 2 years ago...
We had recently discussed the possibilty of #060 being the yellow car seen in the video from ELG in Japan, since apparently that car is not #014. That brief discussion was here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=3311652&postcount=11), but its unconfirmed of course.
There are a few shots of a yellow car taken outside the McLaren Cars factory in some books I have. I would suspect they are shots of #014 as the rocker panels don't have the black coating that I noticed was missing on some cars (including #014) the other day. Maybe these images were what caused you to believe that #060 was in England?
This detail also gives extra credibility to the car from ELG not being #014 and possibly being #060 since it very clearly has the undercoating in the video. We would just need to be certain that there was never another F1 refitted to be yellow for me to be nearly confident.
I have this car as being in Japan
Here's why you have that car as being in Japan: Link (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2604563)
As Mclaren240! suggests at the bottom of that thread - #063 could be the silver F1 with the red stripe on the door. That's one of the few cars left over there we don't have a clue on really.

This is why i believe 060 is in the UK. This was taken out of a Classic and Sports Car from a few years ago. It was at the Louis Vuitton Concours (don't know the year. i'll look it up later)

Hmmm... David Clark showed GTR #06R at the Louis Vuitton show once. What's to say that this isn't #014 post Brunei, but prior to it coming to the USA? That's a scenario that could make sense to me.

I remember really studying the chassis photo of that 010/070 car and I was pretty sure it read 010. But the GM signature theory makes sense. So take 70 off the list and add 10.

The yellow seems more metallic and "shiny", the pics i've seen of 014 show it as a flatter yellow. When i go to England in a few weeks (don't you love thanksgiving holidays :D ) i'll ask someone who may know ;)

I've posted this before - all three are photos of the very same chassis #014.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1/gs_colors.jpg
It doesn't take much of a change in hue for the same color yellow to look quite different as evidenced by those shots. Outdoors versus indoors, one film or camera type over another, white balance on or off. Even the printing process on that magazine could have been pushed to bring out detail on the black car in the foreground of your shot and if so would have contributed to a change in the color we are seeing quite a bit.
On my monitor, the Taylor & Crawley-sourced photo in the middle of my trio seems like it's nearly an identical color to the one in your shot if you were to add some more daylight, which is what your image seems to have.
