Strange problem, wondering if anyone else has experienced this. When i am running the heater, and the car is stopped (engine still on), i get a tremendous amount of what i think is exhaust fumes coming thru the heating vents. When the car is moving, it does not get in the cabin. Also, this does not occur when i run the a/c in the summer. Furthermore, when i use the cabin air to heat, fumes do not come in the car. Any idea's as to why this would happen?

I would look to make sure that the seal at the bas of the hood (edge closest to the windshield) is intact. Also check to be sure the mouldings and A/C filter are in place.

I have the same problem except mine smells like oil but its not burning any. It really gets smoky sometimes.

Smelling like oil is likely a leaking valve cover on the passenger side. It drips directly on the exhaust manifold, burns instantly, and gets sucked into the passenger-side air makeup while standing still.
It's a common problem on pre-03 V8s, but can be difficult to locate the leak since it only happens when running and never drips visibly. Most decent Lincoln dealerships should be familiar. Make sure they replace BOTH sides AND the coil seals.

I think mine is doing the same thing. I get this smell and some light smoke (sorta) coming in the cabin. Once I am moving I am ok.
Is yours the same?
These cars are a piece of crap.
