Greddy vs. Apexi

What's happening everyone? I was just wondering what kind of cat back exhaust I should get for my 95' GSR. I have a 96' JDM B18c engine and plan on boosting it in the future. Many have told me that I could get away with 2 1/2 " piping and so I was wondering if I should go with the Greddy Evo 2 or the Apexi cat back. Does anybody know the difference in diameter also? Question's, comment's, suggestions? Thanks.

Yes 2.5" piping should be fine. I think the diameters are the same as far as comparing the n1 catback to the evo but I'm pretty sure the gtspec is bigger. What I would do that would end up cheaper is getting just the muffler (or something close to it) you want, I know apexi sells just their mufflers (even in different colors if you want a different look) take it to a muffler shop and have them do the piping, that way you can do things like eliminate or go to a high flow cat and put in resonators. Seeing as how you live in so cal like me you'll want to keep the dbs down (to avoid the cops) so you may not want to get just a straight through circular muffler, (the oval shaped ones are normally quieter) then you can get a nice tip or leave it for a sleeper look. I got my entire exhaust done with, hi-flow cat, 12" resonator and dynomax race flow muffler with a thermal R&D tip for less than 400 bucks and it looks/sounds nice (similar to street RSR system). I only did 2.25" piping(because I'm going the NA route) so it might be a little more for 2.5" or bigger. But if you truly want a name brand exhaust, I like the sound and looks of apexi more.

I've heard good things about RSR exhaust, but personally i like to build my own! Just get an HKS 3" muffler and build the rest yourself.....it isn't that hard. IF you're planning on boost, 3" is almost a must, but if not then go w/ 2.5" for sure.

3" is only needed if hes going with like 400 or above hp. 2.5 will be find for a stock motor turbo

Civickiller is right. The RSR Exhaust is nice, but if you're going turbo, you'll want the 2.5, and the RSR is only 2.25. I've heard good things about Thermal R&D too, they make a series of catbacks designed for turbo, try looking into them if you want the name brand, otherwise I guess buying the muffler and having the piping done at a shop is best.

switching from 2.5 to 3 inches will change your spool time.
if you want your setup to perform to its maximum potential, the 3 incher is the way to go.

Thanks everybody for the info. Not to change the subject but since we were talking about turbo charging I had 2 more quick questions. 1) I know companies like Greddy make a turbo kit for the GSR motor, but what about when it's a JDM GSR b18c with 10.6 compression? The USDM is already pushing the envelope so aren't I almost definately going to have to rebuild my engine and lower the comp. before I even think about installing a turbo? 2) What effect does turbo charging have on VTEC? I mean does your VTEC still kick in at around the same rpm and the same way? Would it be the same to boost an LS engine compared to a GSR engine? I'm sure it's different but I was just wondering in what ways. Thanks everybody.

From what I've heard the stock internals are fine, under less than 275 hp but over that...isn't it pretty much reccomended to do the internals anyways? VTEC is great for turbos basically more flow= more power. Also I know that it is cheaper, based on what many of my friends have done, to build your own turbo setup, several people I know have a complete setup with bigger injectors, hondata and a fmic for just over 2500. They used the turbos off of wrecked dsms/eclipses and they work great after nearly 2 years on them.

idk about a JDM GSR, but on my GSR, i was told by the guy that was going to tune my car that i could be pushin 300-325whp on stock internals. It would require a good tune, but that's why i was looking at a Hondata S300.....

With that compression you could run SOME boost. You couldn't feed the thing 18 psi of boost, but like should be good (really conservitive) High octane gas is a must.

Get an A'PEXi N1 Catback, the piping is 65mm which is 2.5" I believe... I have it on my lude and it sounds great.

but theres a difference if hes gettin boost, he should run something a little bigger than 2.5 because it'll help in spool up.....it all depends on the size turbo and power goals...

If he's running low psi then he should be fine with an N1, but anything such as 15psi or more, he should go custom... www.kteller.com

well i know that the turbo set up that i'm starting to piece together (very slowly :p) i'm looking for a 3" dp and building a 3" exhaust. I'm looking at only boosting 11-12 psi on a decent sized turbo and making hopefully around 300-325whp.
