buying a 95 Cirrus

I'm looking at buying a 95 Cirrus and was wondering if they were a good reliable car. It has 132k on it and it has a 2.5L engine. The car looks to be in very good shape. I could only see a minor chip at the lower front corner of the back door, a small scratch at the fuel door, and a small blemish in the windshield. The interior looks to be in very good shape as well. The lot is asking $5995 Cdn. for it. Also I was wondering what they are like on gas? I don't have what you would call a heavy foot either.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

this was the first year for this model. the 2.5 engine has a history of water pump failures and the 1995 had transmission issues. if you have a reputable shop verify these items you are probably ok.

6g's is a lot for this car with that many miles. I remember looking at what my own 95 LX was worth last year and it was about 1g US with about that many km's.

And the body of my car was in great shape, same with the interior (besides the patch in the back seat where a stray dog we were taking to the shelter tore into). The car mechanically seems to have a lot of problems.

Bottom line, I wouldn't.

By the way, its SHIT on gas. 45 litre tank, 350km's to a tank. That's garbage. We even changed the 02 sensors, which was giving an error code, and the fuel filters and pumps etc etc and the mileage didn't get any better.

Reliability? How about going 120 on the 401 and your car goes into limp home mode? At that speed, the tranny goes into neutral and becuase you didn't notice, the engine redlines and your steering stiffens right up. On top of it, the car is in the far left lane over a bridge with 4 lanes to hop across to pull over.

Again, I wouldn't buy it.

I agree. Our Cirrus looks great but has the the "limp home mode" problem which I am still trying to fix, and other electrical problems that everybody seems to have with these cars. Check out carreview.com and get yourself something more reliable.

I agree with the above poster, I brought my wife one in great condition for 2100, only problem we had was a shifting issue that was fixed for a little over $250.00.
The prevoius owner done a great job of taking care of the car, had all repair reciepts.
One in particular I noticed was replacing the waterpump.
My wife's car is a 95 LXI [ LOADED ] great car, but drinks gas like a big dog !

That's too much to ask for the car, I brought my wife's LXI @ $2100.00 [ CASH ],SUPER Clean.
That was 2 years ago, hopefully you can get them to go down on the price.

IMO, I would have a trustworthy mechanic to check it out for you.
There are places that will do a full safety check on your car for a reasonable charge.
My wife car has been dependable for the last 2 plus years, with a little work, such as new tires, minor tranny work, oil changes .
Will be doing a tune up soon for better gas milage.
Good luck !

DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE CARS!!!! While in the late 90s it ran well, ever since the 5 year mark, I have had nothing but PROBLEMS!!! It has too many recalls to begin with and it seems like every time I turn around, I have to shell out more money to fix something on it than before. I paid 9k for mine in 2000 and it is a 95. I didn't have too many problems until about 2002. Then it was a bad computer chip, tranny, wheel cylinders, brakes, shifter, etc. I still have it to this day and now it likes to just up and quit on me while I am driving!! Go for a Taurus, stay away from dodge/chrysler.
Respectfully,
sick of da cirrus:puke:

I own a 95 cirrus and it has been nothin but problems, the car reapeatly goes into limp home mode, hard on gas, Bad shifts, stays in second gear.
The only thing good about the car is the 2.5L Mistibutia engine

My advise buy a honda....
