Ok i went to put my fuel filter on my 97 cavalier this weekend. And that clip on the fuel filter is a PAIN. I know some one posted a thread about this, but. How do you get that dumb clip off. I tried to push it in and pull, and every thing. I can't get it off. I ended up breaking one little peace off the clip. PLz help.

The tool compresses the ears of the clip so it will release. You could probably use a couple small screwdrivers to do the same thing.....if you have like 3 or 4 hands to use.....

well i bought the tool and i can not get it in there. The lip on the tool is to long, so i will just use screw drives. Thanx for all your guys help.

I think the tool you need for that fitting is the one that looks like a plastic collar that slips into the end of the fitting. Get the tool from NAPA. They come in a set. I changed the filter on a Suburban and ended up cutting the filter with tinsnips to even be able to get the tool in there. The Cavalier filter looks very similar for that year. Lucky for me my 2002 filter is different and much easier to change.

break the black clip off, then take small screw driver and then take two wrenches between the front of the filter and the quick connect and seperate them, the new filter will have a small white plastic piece on it. what you need to do is on the inside of the quick conntect line there will be some small metel clips. they will all be tied together. you need to remove the metel clips, just take a screw driver and pull em out. then the new filter just slips right up into the quick connect line and snaps.
hope it helps.

Got it done, i cut the filter off then put the quick disconect tool where the left over peace from the fuel filter was on the gas line and got the rest of the filter off. I took the black plastic clip all the way out and tried to push the new filter in and the little white peaces on the filter were in the way. So i was GOING to put the black clip in and just put the filter in with out the little clip. BUT i was just seeing if the filter was going to fit so my dumb self put the fuel filter (the new one) in the line with out any clamps and it latched. So i did not put any clips on. Put it all back together an there is no leeks so it is good now. 112,000 on original filter, ya it was dirty. Does a nice smokey burn out now.
