upgrading the system...

so in the next couple months i plan on replacing my trunk system(new amp and subs) around xmas time actually and working on it over my winter break from school. ive done alot of research and i want to get two 12'' subs that will last me a while so maybe i can add two more 12s or one 15 next year.

i want to say first that im on a pretty limited budget, i was thinking under 500 for the subs and amp. and ive pretty much had my heart set on the alpine type-rs; ive only heard good things about them so far. so i think im going to go with the dvc with 4ohm each. and im not really sure about the amp yet though. i dont know much about hifonics but ive heard theyre pretty decent for the price and i found a 1000wx1@2ohms mono amp for 200.
http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2885
so i was thinking of getting that amp and wiring the subs in series/parrallel for a 2ohm load.

what do you think of the hifonics amps, theres alot of other amps id rather have but that seems like the best deal for my budget.

also would i be better off getting the 2ohm+2ohm alpines and wiring them in a 1ohm load for 1500watts?

ok and final question: when i finish this ill have my 4channel alpine amp, the hifonics(?), and possible another 2channel driving two speakers in the trunk for added effect(im doing a nice custom trunk setup). now im currently running a 4 gauge wire from the battery, now should i upgrade this(if so probably to 1/0). also should mention that im already having problems with headlight dimming with only <500 watts, which is really bad. i plan on doing the big 3 with the install and eventually a second battery. now im guessing it would prob be best to run a much bigger wire, but again im on a limited budget so id rather not if i dont have to.

ok that was kinda long...any help/recomendations would be appreciated and any and all comments about my setup, amp, or subs is welcome.

ok so basically what do you all think of the hifonics amp and has anyone had any experience with this online store?
also the 12in type-rs?

I've dealt with ikesound before. Lets just say I will never buy or recommend them again in my entire life.

dunno bout those retailers, but from what i hear about the amp, those specs are grossly overrated. still, the amp itself performs well. again, from what i've heard around here on AF. :2cents:

ive used sonic electronix and ikesound, good service on both. I use hifonics amps alot, i have personally set up a NX400 on 2 RE12"s, a BX1000D on an SX, and a couple other ones. im thinking about getting the Titan 1000W for my Type R 12", but im investigating the safe RMS wattage for a type R, since this is my daily driver.

thats what i figured since it was so inexpensive and that many watts, but hifonics is supposed to have pretty good prices...so even if those specs are overrated i should be able to run about a good 1000w with a 1ohm load wouldnt you think?

HiFonics old models will be overrated a little bit. not much, usually 100 to 200 watts. the 05 models do rated power

I use Hifonics so far in two systems over 1,000w and they haven't flinched. Good value.

that helps alot, thanks. and wow im really impressed by their prices then... i think im going to order the BX1500D and run two type rs at 1ohm.

I should add that I DONT use them under 2ohms. just so you know. for that kind of load make sure you keep it ventilated very well.

actually, would it be safer to order the DVC4ohm's and run the amp with a 2ohm load. do i risk any damage to the amp running it at a 1ohm load, or should i be fine as long as my gains are down? the amp is rated at [email protected] still back to my original question now to whether i should get the 4ohm or 2ohm dvcs.

get the 4ohm DVC because then u can wire them down to 2 ohm load so they get about ~450 each.

if ur looking for a vlaue, an alternative to hifonics is Profile, they're also very good, cheap amps.

yeah, get those DVC's, they'll give you more freedom choosing ur amp by allowing more wiring options for ur sub.

yea ok so i just got back from talking so some audio guys, and they recommended me getting the 4ohmDVCs also because there will probably be more distortion with a 1ohm load which i was concerned about.

and yea i heard the profile amps were a good deal too, but i couldnt really find one that i really liked that was a classD, the BX1500D though would be perfect at a 2ohm load with 500wrms for each sub.

so your getting DVC 2ohm, wiring each sub to 1 ohm, them wiring them in series to the amp, which is in mono. or getting 4ohm DVC and wiring each sub to 2 ohm and running a single channel to each sub.

OR are you getting 4 ohm DVC, wiring each sub to 2 ohms, then wiring them in parellel to the amp, showing it a one ohm load?

yea i meant to say that im going to get the DVC 2ohm and run the two subs in parrallel and then in series for a 2ohm load on a 1channel amp
