need torque

alright guys i kinda have a dilema here. i finally put in the 88 hf tranny in my 89 civic. every thing works great. but i figured this would happen. it dropped the rpms down too low in fifth gear and it is sucking way to much fuel just to maintain speed. i end up just running it in 4th gear. so my question is what should i do to lower my torque curve down to about 2000 rpm like the d15b6. i dont really want to have to put the d15b6 head on because then i will have to put different pistons in. i need some help guys thanx.

why did you put the HF tranny in? shouldve went with the Si tranny or somethin..

why would i want to buy an crx hf when i have a civic already and i have a hf parts car. my question i have is i make some threads here and there and no one ever answers them. they always throw in their little tid bits of b/s and i really dont care to hear them. why cant we get people to just answer the questions. it is just kind of annoying

Underdrive pulleys may help... maybe a lightweight flywheel. A turbo would definitely add torque but that would kill mpg.

if you want lower torque then increase your stroke or just raise the power band you have now.
try intake, header, exhaust. also if your going for gas mileage why do you need more torque, that shows that you want more power to go faster which mean more gas and that will just kill your gas mileage.
also the motor doesnt suck fuel, the injectors give it fuel, so if you think your running too rich look at your fpr or your injectors

civic killer i know it doesn't make much sense that i need more torque. it isn't that i nessicarily need more torques i just need to get the power band down around 2000rpm. i cant really explain what it feels like for the motor to be pulling the hf tranny. the best i can explain it is i am pulling a trailer. the only way to for the motor to pull this transmission is to lower my torque curve. what i think i am going to have to do is use the d15b6 piston and head to lower the torque curve. i would also like to take a d16a6 crank and put it in the motor because if you look at the specs it has a longer stroke. next question i have is where can i pick up a d16a6? any one have one for cheap

I have a D16A6 bottom end I just took out for my swap. Make me an offer.

10-31-2005, 03:59 PM
you have the rods to go with it?
doug294
10-31-2005, 04:01 PM
It's the whole bottom end.....pistons, rods, piston rings, etc etc. It's all still together.
sblkcamaro70
10-31-2005, 04:02 PM
well i would only need the crank and rods, because i would use the pistons rings and whole top end from my current motor

shit what am i thinking i would need the pisons to o

see thats the thing i am not real sure how much it is worth and doing this swap isn't a high priority to me so i wouldn't be will to pay much. tell me what it is worth to you

Well man, your talking about doing engine work and all that, spending what $150~$300 to get the specs to where u want it, and to raise the torque curve for better gas mileage... All for what? To save a few bucks? I mean really, what do u have now a DX with the D15B2? They already get 31city, 35hwy MPG... Si, isnt much worse at 28 city, 33 hwy... In my eyes, they already get GREAT gas mileage stock... So the next best option, is simple... Buy an HF that gets 49 city and 52 hwy, or swap in the engine... But swapping in the engine wont help MPG much the HF gets its gas mileage mainly because its light... So to make my point, why spend all this money, and do all this work, just to save a few extra dollars? When in the end, you still wont have that much better gas mileage... Its much easier, and cheaper just to sell the Civic, and buy an HF... Which in short, what I meant in the first reply, didnt mean to come off as I did so I appologize for that...

i know it would be simpler too just buy a crx hf (by the way i am looking for an all original crx) but i like to tingker with what i have. it is almost like a game to me. i want to make the car better than when it came off the show room floor. especially when people think my car is a piece of shit. but i love it. i think alot of Honda guys are in the same boat as me. i know this site is mostly dedicated to performance. but this is the only place that people understand hondas and have a passion for them

I hear you man. I was checking out ebay for "original" crx's and I didn't feel so bad about my "tinkered" with POS. Actually, I felt pretty good about it. It makes me feel even better when I pass a stock looking crx on the freeway and it's blowing blue smoke out the back and I know that I am not because I actually do maintain my car. I feel bad, however, for these kids that end up with crx's that are like the above mentioned example and must start out this way...

yeah trutle i hear you. i started out with my 89 civic. and it was a piece. it pumped oil so bad (a quart every 200 miles) both cv joints were bad. the chamber alignment was way way of. basically this car was a piece of shit. i basically revived it mechanically. overhauling the motor, replacing the boots on the cv joints, did a bunch of suspension work. it still looks ugly but it will last longer than most brand new vehicles. i just love my little civic and i think it is fun to see if it can make it better than original. (still looking for an all original crx)

Talk about oil spray... when I first had the car it had high compression pistons but burned lots of oil through the rings. I was waiting to turn right one day, and some bitch pulls up on the left in a white taurus or something and says "move your ugly car, I can't see" and I was like "fuck you bitch" and her fag boyfriend, reading something not even looking stuck his middle finger out the window... so I just revved it up, and dropped the clutch and that kid was wearing oil all over his face and it probably got on the girl driving too. Another time I was waiting for traffic to die a bit to go in this dangerous intersection before they installed a traffic light, and this bitch in a white camry leans on the horn behind me, so her nice white car ended up pretty black in the front because of her impatience... Too bad for them... good times...

just FYI d15 and d16 cranks and rods are different, the d15 is considerably smaller...

yep and the pistons make up for the difference, so the piston doesn't slam into the head

no not in that sense... The crank bore size is different. and the rod ends are smaller on the d15.
Basiacally putting a d15 crank in a d16 would be like finding the most used and worn out prostitute in Las Vegas.
