'Bubble Lights' on an F1

Hi all,

Does anyone know if any road-going F1's have the 'bubble lights' fitted instead of the normal flush-fitting ones as fitted to some of the GTR's? If yes, are there any pictures floating around of them?

I was just about to answer your question in the other thread - but no, I've never seen them fitted on any road car. They made their first appearance at LeMans in 1996 and returned for the same race on the longtails in 1997.

Did they use the bubblelights only at the LeMans 24 hours or also at
other races?

My guess is that they are larger to increase the candlepower / wattage. And are probably in excess of being Road legal.

LeMans is one of the only races I can think of where headlights would be required. I can't say with certainty they were not fitted to the cars at any other races since I wasn't there, but I don't believe that they were.

I thought there were other races and confirmed through research in GT Endurance:

Edit: Bubble lights were present on the cars at Suzuka 96 and 97

here are bubble lights fitted to 22r in a 1998 fia gt championship enduro race, not sure which race, but it isn't le mans for sure since 22r was resprayed to the all black 'loctite' livery and number 41 at 1998 le mans, the returned to its black and red 'davidoff' livery with the number 15 as shown for the remaining fia gt races... it didnt have the bubble lights on a regular basis though as you can see in my sig which leads me to believe this might have been the race right before lemans, or possibly around le mans qualifying time and the lights were fitted in preparation for le mans

Fortune: I'd have to suspect Suzuka again in 98. It certainly doesn't have any of the ACO stickers for LeMans. In fact it has the GT number placard. (I really like that color combo btw.)

I have to believe that Suzuka is the only other race in the FIA GT series that extends into the black of night to warrant such light configurations.

The other series might have enduros at Nürburgring or A1, but I don't recall too many McLarens participating in them after 95.

Adding credibility to that theory, I don't believe that Japan has ever banned tobacco advertising in motorsports, so seeing the real Davidoff logo there on the nose is a telling sign.

Davidoff could always make out they were selling their awful smelly stuff

Actually they are one of the better cigar makers in the world. A smoother blend of tobacco. The Davidoff store in New York City is one of only a handful of places where you can still smoke indoors in that city.

Cool Water is not their best cologne.. in fact I think it's one of their worst.

Save yourself money ... my ex-g/f thought the cheap airfreshener I bought in a garage smelt like Davidoff! Shall I find out the brand?
