well, I took my jeep for a little off rad driving to try out a new snorkle my friends and I built, so we hit this one puddle we thougt was only about a foot and a half deep according to out stick test, and it was a lot deeper, water went almost too the hood, and was deep enough inside the jeep to almost cover the center transmission hump, got the jeep out still working, thank god the snorkle worked. and ran good, so we coontinued on all wet, on my way home the transmission started shifting funny, I figureed it was becuse the computer got wet whick it did, I unplugged the computer and shifted manualy. next morning, I dried the computer out and reinstalled it, started the jeep up and it ran like crap. there is gas smell comming from yhr throttle body, it is still shifting like crap, There is transmission fluid in it, and oil, there is no gas in the oil, no visible water in the oil, I am not sure about the transmission fluid having water or not. and when it shifts wierd, the transmission overheats and sprays fluid out a breather hose on the passenger side of the motor... I really hope I dind't break anything real expensive...

tranny, and engine fluids have been changed, still no luck. It does have 175000 miles on it and Its just starting to nickle and dime me, first the hubs, then the water pump, the o2 sensor, brakes, u joints, power steering pump all in the last 2 months... maybe it is just time to say "good bye" to my jeep. My parents are telling me to get rid of it. The floor is pretty rusted... maybe its just time to let go... I just don't know what else to do.

You may stll have water/mud in any number of electrical connectors for the various sensors.

You might try getting some contact cleaner and, one by one, disconnect all elec connectors under the hood and spray wih the cleaner. Also check any connector underneath (transmission, fuel, etc.)

I already tried that, I talked to a few mechanics in this area, they all said the same thing, The tranny is going, They nor my parents think it is worth fixing. My dad took me out car shopping today and I found a 98 2 door xj, 5 speed 4.0, 127000 miles... they want 2800 for it. sound like a good deal?? I took it for a test drive and the clutch pedal is really hard to push in, is it normal for a jeep or do you think it needs a clutch? It didn't seem to slip when i drove it, and with the standard transmission it will spin its tire no problem, I found out on accident leaving the lot :evillol:
