Right now I've got my neons grounded and ready to hook up to a power source. I'm going to hook them to my cig lighter and was hoping that I could use the lighter as a switch as well.

While doing random searches one day I found this posted by Eclipse RST:my boost is set to 15psi for daily driving but when i push the cigarette lighter it sets it to 23psi! http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=269991&page=2&pp=15&highlight=pink+slips

Does anyone know if it's possible to do this to my neons as well. Hook them up somehow and when I press the lighter it turns my neons on.
Thanks

You would just have to make the lighter plug into a switch, I don't think you could have it function as a lighter as well. Just make something where when you push the lighter in it completes a circuit, you know, a switch.

I wish I had taken pictures of this.. but they have crimp ons for the lighter wires...... In the side panel drill a hole with a hole saw for your switch. Mount it there.. Connect the side going to the lights (positive) to one side of the switch. The other pole they have "splicing" crimps ons.

You slide it over the existing positive wire on the lighter. Place the swtich wire in the hole on the crimp and bite down on it with a pliers. It crimps into the existing lighter wire. They sell them at autozone or a home depo cheap. Great if you hate dealing with splicing.

If you want pictures I'll pull off my side panel tonight and take them. PM me.

Just a suggestion... above your stereo where the center vent is... on my old car anyways there was an empty spot by the hazards switch/center vents that would be good for a toggle switch.... i've even seen a dual switch... push once for on and push again for off.... not sure the exact switch name but you get the drift....

Yeah I've got that area too. It would be a paint to run wires up there though. I just took apart my interior and then put it back together. Now I've got to run wires and I'm trying to keep everything intact if I can.

those vent's pop out... so do the switches. If you take off the bezel around your dash guages then you can see on that side there is empty space there... Tie a washer to a wire and drop it down. It will pop out down below behind the cig lighter from there. I think you should be able to get it down that way. Otherwise the heater controls extend back far so you really have to go back around them. That should be the hardest part if you decide on there... Ever think of inunder the change box's lid. Like build a platform. Then you can flip up the change thing and hit the switch. You should even mount a pilot led there so you knew when it was on...

Just a thought if you don't use that slot.

Hey guys. I was wondering if you could let me know what the wires in the console run to. There are 3 sets of wires (2 lights, cigarette lighter). Mine were all just sliced by someone when they owned the car and I am trying to get the lighter hooked up...mayeb install indoor neons on the light wires?? Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I though about that but don't want to lose my cupholder(2g) and my ashtray has my remote bass knob mounted in it. I think I'm gonna end up putting my switch on the lower side console panel. Then the switches are hidden, easy to get to, and short amount of wire will be used.
