possible solution to my problem..

okay.. yeah Ive been having small problems with the idleing of my car at stop lights. I dont know if you read a previous thread of what happened when I was at a stop light and the car just went Vroom on its own and it lunged forward but i was holding the break hard enough.. but it still moved forward. WELL, i realized it only idles weird when the car is in operating temp. but when its cold, its good. I installed a throttle body air filter like this one (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=15499&parentCategoryId=11175&langId=-1)

I was wondering, since it sucks up hot air from the engine since the filter sits close to all the heat, could that be a possible cause?

yeah.. with the city driving and the sucking of the hot hot air.. and the waiting for a red light or something sucking in hot air..?

remove the air intake assembly and check your throttle blades, open and close them, see if they operate normally.

you mean see if they dont get stuck or if its hard to move them?

yea, it'll give us a starting point on finding the issue, if they're not acting funny, it may be and electronic issue. tps perhaps or iac.

what can I use to lubricate, if i can, the sides of the blades, where they pivot?

i'd just clean em with carb cleaner if they're gunked up

ahhh alright. SO the air cleaner doesnt affect it in any way right.. well.. other than just sucking in more air

i can't see why it would.

alright, i cleaned them good.. well.. they werent bad to begin with but i gave them a good cleaning anyway.. i think it is my IAC, is there a way to check it?

Doubt it is the IAC, more like the TPS. A bad TPS can cause 1k RPM surges at idle and never throw a code.

i took out the IAC and cleaned it up.. it wasn't too dirty, is the tip of it suppose to be 'stuck' in the out position? cause I see a spring but I dont know if it is possible to push it in manually or it just does it while inside the TB.

you think that is why my car just threw itself forward like I was describing earlier?.. just a surge while I was in drive. and then I was trying to get home and I was trying to avoid something down the street so I hit WOT and the check engine light came on but just went off right away.. then after that happend, i was at a red light, in neutral, and when i went to give it gas when the light turned green and I put it in drive, it was stalling like when your learning to drive stick just abrupt stops even though I was giving it gas. That only happened for that short period of time and hasnt done that abrupt stop-go stop-go stuff anymore. well.. i havnt really driven it much lately but im sure the problem persists.

arent you supposed to use those cone filters with cowl hoods or does it not matter. i thought those kind of filters needed the extra air flow inside the engine bay.

I doubt it.. it gets more air than it does before.. you can hear it hehe and it also helped my gas mileage when i was driving it daily so i guess there is no shortage of air.

Yes, a TPS will do just that...did you get the TPS wet? Like in washing the engine? Since you saiud the check eng light came on...pull the code and see what it says.
The IAC will stay where it was last set to by te ECM...Before you reinstall it you are supposed to reset it by pushing down on the pintle (cone end) while rocking it back and forth, this will retract the pintle.

Well if it only does this AFTER it is to operating temp, it could be a open loop problem... meaning possibly your O2 sensors.

Thats my :2cents:

alright awesome.. ill check the codes and nope I didn't get the TPS wet.. maybe just needs replacing according to what its been doing. I might as well replace the IAC as well.. you know.. just for peace of mind and then lets see if the problem persists. Ill also get the EGR checked just in case.. ahh I'm glad its been narrowed down to this.. thanks alot.

I don't know if this will help, but my friend had the same or similar type of problem in his car (don't remember what type of car) but it turned out that his torque converter was wearing out. He said that his engine would rev when he was completely stopped and people next to him would think that he would want to race. So he got it replaced and that was that. But if you have a manual, than disregard this.

would the car move forward though? or would it just rev.. my car acts like it wants to take off without my consent haha luckily, i have brand new brakes all around so it only moves like a foot or so. and it doesnt keep revving.. it just goes vrrooom and thats it.. it doesnt sustain it.
