Rear seat and interior door panels seperate...makes it alot easier got the racing version I have planned :evillol:
Body molded in white, engine in silver, interior black.
Glass installs from the outside.
Decals are: choice of gauge cluster colors, black or silver stripes
I don't like the wheels. The quality is great, but I'd rather have the old style ones.
New tires, non name brand tho.
Grille seperate from body, seperate chrome horse.

Look like a good kit to work on. I will surely add this to my list. I would have loved blue stripes, but guess I will have to paint them.

It's 1:25. I with they had inluded a base model grille and some options. The fit will probably be right on.

the wal mart system is fickle. they can't order things like models.....well that needs some clarification. they can't order specific models. they are simply sent a box of models. that is why some wal marts have a different selection than others. Also it is on an automatic replenish system, so they aren't sent to the store until they are "needed" ....
I need about 3 or 4 of them lol. I saw an awesome turbo racing version on another board...definately need to replicate that...and a couple other ideas floating in my head

most online sources are showing early Nov. so we should start seeing them widely in the next week or two. Tower Hobbies is showing a lot of the newer revell kits like the z06 c6r and the like as order pending...

however hobbylinc.com is showing the same items but is giving a due date unknown status

Looks very nice, anything like the Revell's I'm currently working on, it will take hours to clean the mold lines and flash off and a full can of primer as you have to prime all the parts, sand again and then re-prime to check your work.
Revell are OK, full detail and everything, but the work needed to make them look good is a lot more..
I think I'll class Revell as the "less done for you" models and Tamiya as "shake the box, chuck some paint and glue in at the same time, open the lid, presto model completed."
Anyhow, nice model of a cool US muscle car..

Dadgum it, it sure got out fast! I'm trying to snag a couple for completion before our show, one to be a group build the night before the show. My info source said they were released to distributors on the 28th, street date of Nov. 9th, so obviously some distributors must have had them even prior to Friday. Anyway, they'll be available soon enough!
As for future versions, they've got a snap-kit curbside Shelby GT500 coming later, no word on a convertible yet. It should happen, give 'em time.

Krylon primer...I followed 2 coats of it with automotive paint and had no crazing
(but the primer had one spot that didn't look so hot)

Can anyone confirm the plastic on this kit is not susceptible to crazing?

Perhaps and because it's the performance model it's puzzling to say the least but these days I think we're lucky if we get anything new other than schlock that sells to non-enthusiasts at Wal Mart.
Nobody knows what they'll do later; don't forget there were snap and full-detail Z06's in Revell's past. Since I only have time to build primarily curbside kits, the lack of an engine doesn't bother me whatsoever
Revell tends to look to the past a lot more than the future, they're not much into risk-taking. They caught flack for making the '99 Cobra, a car that everyone (especially Ford) wants to forget (the year they quit selling/making them because they made nowhere near the advertised HP rating), but when Revell tooled it they had no idea the basic car from Ford was a POS and sales flop w/o a lot of later re-engineering. The kit would have sold better as a standard GT or Bullit, and everyone expected a Mach I or the later supercharged Cobra, yet Revell never bothered to do anything more w/the '99 Cobra. The model business isn't exactly a huge money maker anymore. If it was, we'd have all the good models we've asked for. We'd have already had an '05 GT kit introduced when the 1:1 debuted.

I hope the Mustang isn't the same plastic, or I hope Revell actually listens to builders.
To everyone who has experienced crazing, I certainly hope you have taken the same amount of time you took to warn us to also contact Revell and let their customer service know about this defect in the plastic. I doubt their engineers knew about these things, yet enough of them are builders that they will understand the problem and could very well make sure different plastics get used. You have to be proactive; let them know about their product. Revell will listen...the Japanese companies and AMT/RC2 are a lot less accessible.

This does look a good kit, and I like the car so would consider getting one. In the UK there are a few revell kits I would like to buy (when I get some funds)
Shelby Cobra 427 SC
Corvette C6
Mustang GR 2006
Dodge Viper SRT 10
Covette Z06
I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells them.. Revell AG are not a problem, but Revell Monogram are really hard to buy..
Oh well, guess it's ebay from the states for me to get these kits, as I fancy a few US muscle cars.. Got too many japanesse and european kits.. Time for something a little different..

The kit looks like a good one. According to Revell's website they where able to obtain Ford actual blueprints for the car so it should be extremly accurate. I hope to get mine on Friday.

Yeah, it appears that US folks get some stuff us UK folks can’t get and the same for Japan etc… This really is bad. If I were to buy all those revel kits, that I do want as they appear to be cool subjects that is $40.. That’s about £25.. Bargain..!! I’d pay that for one Tamiya kit over here…

I could possibly work something out with you. If I get the kits from Hobby Lobby with my mom's discount, I could get them quite a bit cheaper, the only thing would be shipping though, we all know how much of a pain in the ass that is.

Well, wait until the next 50% off sale and I'll go get 'em, throw 'em in a box (gently of course) and ship 'em off to you! That'd be about 28 USD -> 16 GBP
Then, shipping through USPS is $38 -> 22 GBP
So, total would be around 40 GBP. Worth it?
Lemme know.
Man, shipping'll kill you!

5 kits for £40..!! Worth it, hell yeah..!! Revell retail for around £14 - £16 in the UK, and four of them I can't even find..
If all 5 were in this country, on average that would be £70..!! So nearly half price, even with the high shipping charge.. As long as the goods are not over £18 and are a gift, UK customs will leave them alone..
Just why are these kits not in the UK? Doesn't make much sense really..!! I'm sure there'd sell.. The CR5 in the UK is doing well, as I was speaking with the chap who sold me mine, and he said he gets a lot of orders for this kit, as it's cheap, and has great detail..

I would expect it to be another week or two before they have it. Most online sources are saying early november. and someone had mentioned a street date of the 9th. If you are expecting it at your local wal mart.....dont be surprised if it is closer to christmas. I was able to make it over and walk through our GM stock room and noticed it was a mess, and then remembered that a lot of pallets make it into the trailors outside of the store....and if those little revell boxes make it on a pallet and end up outside the store...no telling when they will hit the shelves....

$43.60 poorer; I just took delivery of four '06 GT's today :naughty:
One for me, one for an ACME group build, and two for a friend. I'm starting it tonight...I'm going to do a marathon-build over the next couple days; though w/the gorgeous warm weather I have to also paint a 1:1 motorcycle seat cowl for a friend and do some yardwork :disappoin
Plans for mine:
Tungsten w/silver stripes, Aoshima 19" TE37's painted Alclad Stainless Steel, black/red interior, slightly lowered, blacked-out taillight panel.
ACME group build (I'm painting it):
Lamborghini Blue Ely w/silver stripes, gray/blue interior, wheels unknown. Mini-palooza this Sunday @ BRE350Z's house should yield an answer on wheels.
I'm working too fast to think about a progress thread.

Cobra Colors Moon Mud primer etches it immediately. It sands smooth and subsequent coats are much better, color coats are okay, but the mold lines start to ghost and reappear. Clearcoat is another issue, the Cobra Colors clear, perhaps because of the plastic problem, causes the base coat to get mottled when you try to apply a wet coat after slowly building up to that point. I've had to switch to Acryl clear at this point.
I'm experimenting w/a second body that's going to be painted in Lamborghini Blue Ely, this one got a very light coat of Moon Mud and then a good airbrushed coat of Zinsser B-I-N primer/sealer that people have said works great as a sealer and blocks plastic bleed. We shall see...it sanded nicely, I'll cover it w/more Moon Mud and we'll see where it goes...but seems that if you want to use anything hotter than hobby paint on this Revell plastic you're going to have to tread lightly. I'm going to contact Revell and let them know I find it unacceptable.

You bet I will! :grinyes:
My experiment w/Zinsser B-I-N primer/sealer seems to be a success. I airbrushed it on (spraycan is awful), sanded it, applied Moon Mud, sanded a few fibers, and then a good coat of Blue Ely. Looks great, and NONE of the ghosting I had w/the first one.
Zinsser B-I-N primer/sealer comes in spray can or various sizes of cans for you to airbrush/spray. It seems to be alcohol-based. Home Depot/Lowes is where I've seen it. About $5 for a spray can, about $8 for a quart. It looks to be mandatory w/Revell plastic and lacquers. It's much less nasty to work w/vs. Variprime. It dries really fast. So far, so good.

Ok..so now this is Bob's written progress thread. lol... LOL I'm too lazy and tired now to take pics. I'll take a few tomorrow, maybe :icon16: . I should take a pic of the can of Zinsser so people can know what to buy, they sell two different grades.

By the way guys, I`ve even had problems with Testor`s Metallizers on this new plastic. It etches worse for me than the automotive laquers.
Zoom,
Any idea how Dupli Color or other autmotive laquers will work over that primer?

Dunno about Dupli Color, but Cobra Colors is automotive lacquer, though it doesn't seem as hot as others. Some guys on Hobby Heaven's board are also complaining about this same subject, it was there I learned about the Zinsser. I just checked the dehydrator, the Zinssered body still shows no signs of ghosting. I wish the spray can sprayed better, it's pretty out-of-control, throws a lot of paint and it's kind of runny. Seemed perfect through the airbrush, though I think denatured alcohol might be the right stuff to cut it/clean it, 91% seemed to do okay cleaning the airbrush. I just have to experiment more w/it, but it does seem to be a solution that's inexpensive and easy to find, at least if/until Revell changes their plastic. I had none of these problems w/the Fujimi or Polar Lights kits I painted recently w/Cobra Colors.
