Anyone with an aurora using a gel cell battery? If so, how do you think it performs compared to a regular wet cell?

The gel cell like Optima are far superior to the wet cell batteries. There are more out there and with the gel cell you can use it in any position you want. I prefer them to the wet cells.

I replaced the original battery in my '97(with a build date of Oct.'96) in August of '03. Don't know if it gets much better than that, but I would like to try a gel or dry.

You got lucky if your battery lasted that long. I pulled the OE battery out of my 02 last night to try and charge it. The charger says the battery is full, but the built in hygrometer says the battery is fully discharged. Hmmm.

Considering the lack of aurora batteries (Std. Wet) in my area, I may indeed look into the gel cells. Especially since my OE battery is acting very odd right now.

My 97 also has the original battery and still works great. I think you will find that despite all of the other shortcommings of the Auroara that big ole battery lasts a long time under that back seat.

I have a 96' with the original battery. Wonder if it will make it through this winter!

I just had to replace my OEM with a similar OEM but not the same model number ($95). Seems to be working just fine.

I Replaced The Original In My 95 At The Begining Of This Year. I Used A Generic Battery W/ High Crank Amps From Walmart For Like 65 Bucks. The Think Cranks Sooo Much Better. Very Wierd Prob To Track Down. My Battery Was Toast But Worked 80% Of The Time.

I'm beginning to notice the same pattern among many aurora owners. A toasted bateery still works (most of the time). Admittedly, my other gms all have the battery under the hood and aren't sealed. Never had a problem with those. My other cars I've not really had a problem with, just the older GMs. Thanks for the input.

I'm fed up with the old battery. I went out an bought a "yellowtop" yesterday. 160 bucks and the thing ways a ton but it will proably be much more reliable and safer since it's a spiral wound gel cell.

Batteries are not permanent parts. Some people are confused about 'tired' vs. 'toasted'. Yes, good ones are expensive just like everything else. But you can expect to buy a new good one about every five years, wet, gel or dry. The application may be more expensive for our cars and that is just another angle of owning a nice, luxury vehicle. Kids buying these at auction beware!
