just not in my vehicle :)

I just got back from districts in cross country and our team placed to go to Regionals!
Sure we got 8 out of 8 for teams that go to regionals but you have no idea what kind of crappy shape our team was in (including myself) at the begining of this season.
I beat my personal best for the 5k by nearly 2min.
2 thursdays ago i ran a 22:18 5k but was comming off of illness, this morning i ran a 20:34 with energy to spare.
im hoping to break into the 19:XX's this comming saturday (regionals).

Just thought id share.

For thoes that dont know how far 5 kilometers is, its 3.125mi...so 20:34 is 3 6:35 miles consecutively... sure a 6:35 isnt at all fast but it gets a lot herder when you are in a pack of over 100 runners on dirt with hills and soft sand and roots and mudd excetera...

Im hoping to bring my 5k down into the 17:XX's by districts next year and maybe land myself a partial scholarship to a 4yr university since my unweighted GPA as of now is 3.150 on a 4.0 scale and weighted is higher considering of my 13 current credits 3 are honors which count as 1.5 a regular credit for weighted GPA and i have 2 more honors classes this year and will be taking AP and perhaps dual enrollment next year (AP and dual enrollemnt count as 2 normal credits, unless they change the standards in florida). i also scored the equivelant of a 1340 on the PSAT my freshman year, and then after that they stopped putting equvilants on the PSAT scores but i scored like a 136* on the PSAT my sophomore year. i am planning on signing up to take the SAT at the end of this school year so i get some more algebra II knowledge in me (maybe we will start learning about stuff i dont already know or havent already learned in physics I honors) and am hoping for a 1300-1400ish.

My school has a pretty good X-country team. We won states I think. This kid in my school runs like a 4 or 3 min mile. I think thats crazy. I think all you X-country people are crazy though :screwy: I mean I dont think I could stay motivated that long. I mean running the length of the football field tires me out enough. Good luck though next week.

6:35 for a mile is pretty good. Back in the day, I think my best mile run was around the same. But that's my best 'sprint'. Your ass is doing it for long as hell, screw that shit. hahah.

Good luck mang.

Thanks for the good wishes.

Redneck, stick to driving :)
I can brake 5's in the mile if i really try but most of hte time i get like mid-low5's. 5 years ago (i think, maybe 6) our school was state runner up and won state in track...though i doubt we will even go to state this year things are looking good for next year as we are only loosing 2 seniors.

my XC coach wants me to try a marathon...i told her (nicely) to shove it... a 5k is fine but not 26.1mi. plus to train for a marathon would slow my progress for hte 5k and since 5k is what is ran at all HS meets and a lot of college meets that is what i will train for (that and since i play soccer you rarely run mroe than 10k in one game, and that is one hard ass game).

Congrats...my personal best for one mile was 5:33 (after that it was ALL down hill) when I was in REALLY good shape. College (and the booze that goes along with it) tends to fuck that up. Keep that shit up.

Are you strictly X-country, or do you track also? If so, which events?

My best for the mile was like 6:59.....

5k, I think I did like 29min.lol I lost a shitload of weight doing cross country. I sucked balls at it. But IDK, it was fun. First course I ever ran all the way through was our 4.5mile course. Towards the end of the season, my legs started randomly hurting, so I quit.... But W/E.

I can brake 5's in the mile if i really try but most of hte time i get like mid-low5's.

My problem is I'm pretty short, with short legs 5'7". So, I have to work harder to go as fast as somebody who's say 6ft tall. I'm pretty agile though, but just not the fastest runner.

In car terms, it's like I'm stuck in 1st gear only. I max out way fast! hahah.

CBFryman
10-30-2005, 07:45 AM
redneck, shortness is no excuse, im 5'5'' and i get beat by kids i could rest my elbow on the top of their head. :D

i started track freshman year was going to do the 1600 and 3200 (1mi and 2mi) but i wasnt fast enough in the 1600 for the first event to keep up with the copetition (there where faster people on my team) and i had to quit because of grades before i could run a 3200.
i was also planning on doing long jump but thye never even got the sant pits cleaned out at our school before i had to quit.

my 40 is like a 5.1 on grass any maybe a 4.9 on a rubber track w/ spikes.

so yes, i am strictly XC as track is more short distance centered which i am not as good at. ofcourse i also play soccer.

TheStang00, do you run track or did you? if so do you jsut do the 40, and 100 and so on or do you take 400's, your 400 is like the standard at my school (as opposed to the mile or the 40), my fastest 400 is 64 sec i think, but there are sprinters at my school that can lay it down in around or even less than 50sec on a good day.

you do any feild events such as pole vault or high jump, a lot of our sprinters do well on the high jump (takes good fast twitch muscle to do both so it makes sence as long as you learn the technique)?

oh but redneck,
even though you are what? out of college? so you probably dont really care , i used to use that excuse too untill i started streching more and practiced opening up my stride, now going 3mph faster takes 3/4 the energy because i opened my stride up, side effects are accadently walking faster...lol
my friends are always saying "slow the f*** down, you'd think you where running a marathon" or "why the hell are you walking so fast" even though to me im just walking comfertably. :uhoh:

-The Stig-
10-30-2005, 03:28 PM
I walk fast as it is, my mom and I are the same... we just walk pretty fast. Infact at work I always out pace my coworker who just strolls along.

I get frustrated cause I have to wait for his ass to hurry up.

But basically, I was never a fast runner... which is why I didn't do track. Although, I was in football for the off season in highschool for one year. I still wasn't fast, but talk about motivation to get your ass moving when you've got a 230lb black dude screaming down your back side going "I'mma get you cracka!".

I left the team before the season started, the Coach wasn't sane. Kinda kookoo. So I said nuts to this and left.

no i never did track or XC. I've played soccer since i was 4... and id like to think im pretty good. reason i gave a 40 as an example is thats because thats what people in sports like football etc use. ive only run one timed 400 in my entire life and it was 61 sec. but that was during the offseason and i was in horrible shape too... But yeah the football coaches at my high school used to love me when i was working with the football team for like 6 months, i was the starting running back and i hadnt ever played football b4... lol. but i ended up pissing them off pretty good when i quite right b4 the season to play soccer.

Yeha, that was back in highschool. Im somewhere around 250 now, but my bench is still in the upper 300s, sqaut in the mid 4s, curl somewhere around 110 if I had to maxout, and clean a high 3 or low 4 something. My best is dead lift, last time I did that I was dead lifting about 700 pounds.

And I think a guy from my highschool set the TAPPS record for mile times with something in the threes.

Congratulations... i ran a 5:26 mile in florida hot, and humid dog days of august :screwy:

oh an i geuss im a pussy because i could probably speed walk a 9:15 :cwm27:

and what is even more pussy like is that cross country is what every other sports coach gives for punishment... we fuck up in soccer we have a mile worth of gassers (modified suicides) you fuck up in Foot ball you gotta run, you fuck up in baseball you gotta run, you fuck up in swimming you gotta run...yes our swimmin coach does running too and we have 4 swimmers who placed in regionals and are going on to state so he did something right.
what i want to know is where you get off saying that a sport which consists of nothing BUT running isnt a real sport...is it because you dont have a ball? so i geuss swimming, track and feild (aside form shot put), biking are all not sports because they dont have balls.... well ill tell you this it takes more balls to run a 5k in under 20min than it does to put on 30lbs of padding and get hit a few times with manditory water brakes every 3min plus times outs excetera excetera.... i geuss maybe wresleing isnt a sport either...
i geuss all the people who compeate in the Hawian Iron Man are pussys? because running, biking, and swiming dont have some sort of device you move around a feild or court?
id like to see you or 90% of people who play foot ball make it through one leg of such an event much less run a 5k in under 20min.
or maybe its just your pompusassed aditude, which would be associated with fuckers who start arguements about how their BMW is better than all (even if BMW is a good company) or how their fat assed foot ball playing self, which a pompous assed aditued would be associated with alot of football players, was so manly because he could run a 9:15 with padding in 105 degree weather... congratufuckinglations... now STFU if you have nothing constructive to say!

Jayson, that is pretty damn good, my freshman year my personal best was like a 23:XX and last year the XC program was like nonexistant and i pulled my quad mid XC season playing soccer.

6:35? thatz not that fast really... my best mile iz 6:20, and im 13. after that though, i kinda wind down. i get past the mile and stop, i cant go no longer. im not that fast in the miles neither, im fastest in my school (6th - 8th grade) (im in 8th) at the 1/4 mile and enaythiang under that, the fastest kid 4 a mile in my school got a 5:34, which was a new school record.

my mile now is probably low 5's, you must have some slow people at your middle school, in 8th grade when i trained for the mile i broke 5min to run my personal best so far a 4:48 and still didnt beat the school record which was 4:45. our school record for the mile is like 4:10 or some shit, its practically a sprint  and as of now no one could touch it as our fastest is probably mid 4's

-Jayson-
11-01-2005, 02:49 AM
dude if you can run a 4:48 miles theres no reason why you cant run a 17:XX 5k. Running is 90 percent mental. When i ran cross country i would completely ignore the guy yelling off my mile times. If i knew i was at a mile i would get scared and slow down cause i thought i was pushing myself to fast and i would burn out.

Theres no reason why you cant, just after each mile, think to yourself, i can go a little faster. Just a notch faster, but it will make a big difference, also that last 400 mile, spring like theres no tomarrow, just keep pushing and pushing, worry about callapsing after the race.

I used to push myself to the point where at the end of the race i would fall down and a few times had to have my teamates carry me away from the finish cause i was getting trampled.

CBFryman
11-01-2005, 01:48 PM
our team uses a uniform strategy, Fast 1st mile, slow down jsut a tad for the 2nd mile to give yourself a rest and as fast as you can the last mile... i probably couldnt run a 4:48 now but could get close to 5 flat.
im hoping to brake 20 this saturday... tomarrow and thrusday its nothing but protien and carbohydrates and friday its mostly carbohydrates and TONS of water with a few bananas... i didnt beleive it at first but diet, especially in the 3-4days prior to a race, has a HUGE effect on performance.

but regionals im going all out, normally we say you didnt run a good race if you can breath even halfway non eratically for 5-10min after the race and if your hear rate drops below 120bmp wihting 15min after the race... im gonna put it out that our new motto is if you dont colapse at the finishline at regionals you didnt give it your all :P
of course you have to be careful colpaseing at the finish line as people will slip by you in the shoot and cause you to loose position and your team to gain points. which is why most races, when i finish, if there is someone ahead of me who has colapsed i stop right behind him and wait for the people to stand him and not let anyone pass me (so he doesnt get passed) because unless it means going to state (lol) its just dirtbagish to steal someones hard earned place.

-Jayson-
11-01-2005, 01:57 PM
slow down? WHY?! no offense but your coach needs to learn how to be a coach. My CC coach was a legend in my state. he had more state champions than any other school under his belt. Every other coach knew exactly who he was and respected him. His motto was always catch the guy in front of you. As youd run past him he point to the person in front of you and say "Baker you better catch that guy"

trust me when i say, dont slow down. You can do it without slowing down. I had guys on me team that ran 15:XX and 16:XX second 5ks. They never slowed down and gave it 110% the whole race.

And trust me, if you want a scholarship for CC, you need to be running at 16:XX. There was a kid on my team who ran a 15:XX, he got a full ride scholarship, but it wasnt to a big 10 or anything like that, just a small state college.

Also think about it before you decide to do that, in college, its not a 5k race, its a 10k race.

CassiesMan
11-01-2005, 09:38 PM
id like to see you or 90% of people who play foot ball make it through one leg of such an event much less run a 5k in under 20min.

Actually, I personaly have run a number of 5k(s) and one 10k for charities (I dont need to run for an award). Also, our entire offensive back field was on the Cross Country team (our coach required it), and they all placed pretty high in state.

Further, while were on the topic of "seeing you do this", I'd like to see you get straight up jacked by the first round draft pick for the Stealers (I have), get a sack on the starting QB for SMU (I have), whup up on a a defensive end getting a full ride to Texas Tech (I have), throw a block on the second team linebacker for UConn (I have), and fully impress a former starting Green Bay DE, among other former profesional players (I have). Good job, you can run fast. I bet you would run away. Those pads don't offer as much protection as you think, and based on the number of injuries I've had, and played through regardless of pain, don't reduce any pain. Not if your playing real football. Oh, and if you think we only run for punishment, then your pretty far off base. Standard daily conditioning consisted of mile runs, super man runs, bleacher runs, full field triangles, and forty yard sprints. Punishment running was that and then usually a few (10-15) sets of gassers or suicides, more hill running, more bleacher running and usually rolling just to get us to throw up. And it was always timed.

Oh, and if you want my best mile ever, with no pads on, my fat ass pulled off a 6 flat. That was still Texas summer heat. Oh, and regarding this:

which is why most races, when i finish, if there is someone ahead of me who has colapsed i stop right behind him and wait for the people to stand him and not let anyone pass me (so he doesnt get passed) because unless it means going to state (lol) its just dirtbagish to steal someones hard earned place.

Then you obviously dont want to win bad enough. And yes, I still hold the biking, swimming, running, track and field (shot put/discuss/javelin included) are not sports but events and activities. And I dont know about your school or Florida ball, but on average, we'd be lucky to get one water break per quarter (coach would restrict us from it), and our team hardly ever called time outs. Not part of our strategy.

CBFryman
11-02-2005, 05:13 PM
ive never played organized foot ball... however i have played with 2 of our teams starting defensive linemen tackle on asfault... ive broken my arm playing foot ball...in the games FHSAA will give manditory water brakes if it is hot quite often.

me not skipping over someone who has given it their all to the point they colapse is common courtesy and good sportsmanship...of course it seems you where never taught that.

and what do you mean "real football"
are you saying soccer isnt real football?
last time i checked the ball may contact a foot 10 times per quarter on a bad day (meaning lots of kick offs or punts)

congratulations on you impressing a scout...that still doesnt make up for the fact you came into MY THREAD and bashed me for doing well compared to my past runs and then bragging about an amazing 9:15 mile.
i geuss you where never taught good manners either.

but id like to see you play 40min straight agianst a rough team, getting smacked to the ground or cleated once a minute and sprinting constantly only catching a breath for a throw in or penulty (i have) or see you beat 3 guys, dribble down the line and give a near perfect cross for an assist late 2nd half of a game after sprinting or near sprinting for 15-20min prior to that (i have) or take being tripped from behind, getting up tackleing an outside left, carying the ball 15 yds, pass it to a center mid the ceck it back out but it was a bad touch and sprint for the ball full speed while a 225+ lb sweeper does the same barely get a touch in for a pass to a striker before being leveled like no ones business and not being able to get a good breath for 5 min but continue sprinting and calling for the ball/calling out things such as "man on" or "time" or "turn left" excetera with what breath you can get (i have).
or go up for a header and get knocked mid air, falling down in the middle of the box and trying to scramble to your feet, but you hand gets cleated and swells to the size of an orange so you jsut take an advil and keep playing (i have) or after the swelling gets too great you get taken off for medical attention and htey wrap it and you begin to cool down from not running but all you have on is shorts an a jersy and no under armor and its 29 degrees and then get back on the feild and run like you hadnt cooled down (i have). or how about going up for a header and busting your nose agianst the other guys temple and continueing to play w/o notice to the blood untill you look down and there is a ring of sweat/blood on your underarmor and jersy from it running down your face and neck (i have)
maybe you would like me to go in to injurys that some of my other team mates have suffered... perhaps when our stopper was knocked down and kicked and the eye making it almost instantly swell shut but got up, sprinted back and continued to play...
or how about the 2 players we lost last year both due to over stressing their hip flexors and both where on crutches for 4 months
or perhaps you'd like to talk aboutthe 2 broken fingers one of our keepers had...
or the torn ligaments in one of our strikers foot.

but ehhh webster sure thinks all of thoes are sports

Well...until this summer dry meant dont get caught drinking by anyone from GHQ. Last year, we threw three major parties, and people are still talking about them this year. However, after a rather nasty incident over the summer that involved a fire, a possible but not confirmed rape, and two of our members spending the night in lock up...we've kinda gone the whole lets really try to be dry route. Now we throw parties with other houses...which means we get all drunk and what not, go to their house, steal their booze and bitches, then come back to our house to nurse our hangovers, LOL!!!

On a more serious note, our fraternity is nationally dry for insurance reasons. Being on a wet campus but a dry house means its much much much cheaper for us to have insurance than other houses. Its also legally helpful.

I've heard that the chapters of my fraternity at some major colleges do throw some of the best parties, though.

-Jayson-

my brothers frat threw some great parties untill there house got burned down. . .lol. They think the owner of the house, the one they were renting it from intentionally started the fire, but no one can prove it.

I loved there halloween parties. They would rent out a huge hall, get a DJ, and have all the pledges run the bar. 5 bucks to get in, drink all you wanted. So many hotties. Damn it was a good time, i miss those parties.

Who knew that the biggest pissing contest on AF wouldn't even involve cars...

Well Regionals is tomarrow...This is the first time ive been Nervous the night before a race or game. Mostly because we have a chance to go to state which would be only the 2nd time in our schools history and the first time in the girls XC team's history.
Basically im shooting for under 6min for my first mile, under 12min for my 2nd and then just basically run as fast as my legs will carry me for the last mile.
