overheating problems

my 99 cavy is acting up its been running fun and all the sudden i seen smoke comming from the engine i turend the car off and it was my coolent smoking out the oveflow and then i realized my fan aint kicking on soo my motor is getting way to hott and i have kno idea of what to do is there liek a sensor or something ?

the ONLY time your fan should kick on is when your car is sitting in the same spot for more then 5-10 minutes, it shouldnt kick on during regular driving, its probably your thermostat ($6)

yah i kno that but it doesnt kick on even when its sitting for over a half hour and i just changed my thermostat today and its still doing the same thing

your fan motor probably pooped itself out, go to a junk yard and get another, at worst youll have a backup fan when it actually does pooop

after looking through my haynes manual i found this, theres a such thing as a "coolant temperature sensor" i would assume your computer uses this to determine when to turn the radiator fan on and off, if its bad the computer wont get the singal, hence, it wont turn on the fan (i think) anyways, to remove the sensor, it says to release the locking tab, unplug the electrical connector, then carefully unscrew the sensor, you said its a 99, if its a 2.2 the sensor is installed in the coolant bypass pipe at the right front corner of the clyinder head, near the alternator, if its a 2.4 its located on the thermostat housing cover, hopefully this helps

try rewirering your fan to the ignintion fuse that way the second you turn on your car the fan will start up, i did that and my overheating problems are over.
