think i threw a rod....

Well, as sum of yew may no.. i fucked up my bird a while back. so i finally got around to workin on it... started it up, drove it around the yard.. did a few lil things.. anyway, buddy of mine came over an listened to it an said i threw a rod out... question is, is there anyway to check on it without tearing down the motor? an what does it sounds like when a piston rod goes out?

Loud rapping sound like someone hitting the engine block with a hammer and usually a hole in the side of the block/pan or both are good indications of a broken connecting rod. Drop the pan to check the rods.

Threw a rod or spun a bearing? I'd be more inclined to say a spun bearing unless, like 97bird stated, you have a hole in your block or other significant damage.
