yeah me too. So do you mean that air is coming out of the hole where the dipstick comes out? Sorry I'm just kind of slow when it comes to some of the stuff yall say over there accross the pond. It doesn't sound very good but I'm not sure I know what you're talking about.

first off, when are you feeling air come through? are you doing a compression test with the stick out? when does the problem happen?

Its quite normal for there to be some air being sucked into and out of the dipstick hole with the engine running.

Just remember that the pistons are creating a small bit of vacume on their underside on the up stroke, and are pumping air out on the down stroke.
If you take the dipstick out then you will be able to hear this, and maybe feel a little.

If there is however a strong force of air then might have badly worn rings or some other problem that is causing blow by into the sump.

But remember there will be lots of other signs of this happening.
Like excesive oil useage and lots of grey/blue smoke from the exhasut, or some kind of abnormal noise from the top of the engine.

If you dont have any of the above then I simply recomend not pulling the dip stick out with the engine running. :smoker2:

The only thing i have coming from my exhaust is steam, no black smoke, or blue smoke.

My car has done 102,000 miles so its probably the piston rings rite?

the air coming out of the dipstick isnt too strong, but i just remember reading something that said its bad if i can feel any air coming from the dip stick.... so i just got a bit worried, and i've got some cam rattle coming from my engine, but i've been told that this is quite normal(?!)

rings are prolly worn on your engine causing the slight vaccuum coming from your dipstick.

as for the head rattle, its not normal, unbolt the cover and retorque the rockers, cam bearings, etc back into spec. according to your service manual.

I've got a manual for the crx that tells me what to set the gaps...
but i'm scared to do it myself....
i've even got a guide that tells me how to do it...
but still scared!!
shall i just try it anyway, coz otherwise i'll never learn...
scared...scared scareddddd

its not hard, but use an accurate torque wrench when you are doing or else you could damage something, just do it slow and take your time, and it'll be fine.
