Need assistance with a part number.

Hi friends.. I've been searching for hours now, and I can't find a G.M. Parts website that lists the steering wheel controls part #'s.
What I am trying to determine is if this particular G.M. Delco part will fit my 2000 GT1. The part number is 22608616

That part is for the steering wheel radio controls for a 2001 (I think...). I am trying to find out if it is the same one for my 2000 GT1.
Can someone recommend a website where I can find this out? I hate to call a Pontiac dealership, because obviously they want to make a sale. I don't want to tell them that somebody has this part for sale, and I am trying to find out if it fits my car.....

If anyone could recommend a website, man, I would be appreciative !!!
Many thanks...

Tommy

Edit >>> I forgot to mention that I checked the G.M.Parts Direct website, but it comes up "item not found". The part number I have is correct too; it is taken from the box of the part that the person has for sale.

Thank you Gir_; Yup, I use mine all the time because I have one of those damn Delco factory radios that have that famous volume control problem. So I use my steering wheel controls all the time.
I think I have dirty contacts in those controls...maybe dust got inside them as they sometimed don't work. And as of yet, I haven't even taken them out yet because I don't know if they simply pry out, or what ...... I don't want to break them.

Thanks for the reply, and if you do happen to stumble onto a link somewhere, please let me know... many thanks !

Tommy

p.s. The guy who has the controls for sale bought them for a different year Pontiac; they are unused and still in the box. But before I buy them, I am trying to find out if they will work in my car.
I think a Pontiac dealer would probably get ticked off if I asked them; after all.. they want to sell parts, lol..

Tommy

p.s.s. ... Wait a minute.. I just thought of something... I could always "fib" a little bit, I guess... And just call and ask for a price; they might think I am considering buying the controls from THEM, lol...
Oh well.... Hey, that's not really a "big fib", right ??

Yup... that's right Gir. I guess I could pretend I am interested in buying it, then somehow ask for the part number, lol...
Hey, they are richer than me... I need a break for a change, lol........

Hey tommy00gt1 , I think the harness for the 99-05 should all be the same. When i blew my air bag, the replacement came with all the inners, air bag cover, new cruise buttons, and new radio controls. My volume is screwy too,Damn Gms!

Hell, dont be affraid to call the dealershits, you were nice enough to buy one of thier cars, so they should be so kind in return. I dont hav any clue what the ###s are for the harness( that u so badly desire). I will keep my eyes peeeeel'd for one though.

Hi xero; many thanks my friend. That's probably what I'll end up doing; I'll call their parts dept and (pretend) that I am interested in that part; then I'll somehow get the number from them.

I hope those buttons come out easily..... Do you happen to know if the entire steering wheel has to come apart ?
Gee, I would'nt want that damn wind bag to deploy on me, lol.... That's all I'd need, to have that thing explode in my face.....

Good gosh man, I must be tired, lol...
I meant to say "AIR bag "; not " wind bag", lol...
I'm on pain meds here for a spinal condition... I think I'm tired, lol..
Maybe I invented a new name for the air bags???
Dual "wind bags", lol.. Gee, I like the sound of that.

Dual wind bags? sounds like you're driving around with the wife and mother in law in the car.

yes tommy those wind bags might just deploy if you dont take precautions. Like disconnect the battery, then pull the damn fuse for the WB(just in case). And yes most of the wheel will pull apart, its easy as hell, we could train monkeys to do it. :)
that air bag smoke, it lingers for days...

Good morning everyone...

LOL !!!!!! That's a good one, ricjtazz.. Only problem is I have never married yet, lol... I guess I still enjoy the single life at 50 years old, lol...
I love that response though.. that one should be saved somewhere !

Thanks xero.. I'm glad you mentioned that; I'll definitely do those precautions before attempting the project. I assume that the middle of the steering wheel somehow pulls out and off.... at least I am hoping it does. I never took one out before.
That damn "mute" button must be full of dust because it doesn't always work; sometimes I have to hit the button about 6 times for it to mute so I do think I have dirty contacts in those buttons.

Monday I'll call the Pontiac dealership and ask about the correct part number. I'll just have to make it sound like I might buy it from them, lol.
I'll figure something out, lol..

Thanks everyone for the responses.. I know richtazz's reply will bring a few smiles to many people's faces.. I think I'll printscreen this thread; save it, and name it "windbag", LOL !!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Tommy
