I want More Power!!!

I just bought a 1993 dakota with a 3.9l v6. am looking for easy ways to get more acceleration from this machine. The cat is still on the exaust sys. also i have noticed that the air intake is right behind the grill but it looks like it is covered so there isnt any forced air going into it. what would happen if i opened that hole wide up???

It is a six cylinder.

look at it this way man. if there is a way for those idiots to boost up a 4 banger box on wheels, i am sure that there is something that can be done.

is the 93 fuel injected or is it still carborated???

There is plenty out there to increase the HP/TQ of the Magnum V6. You also have the option for a Mopar Performance PCM as they were built for the 93/94 models (V6). You also have the better exhaust manifolds on your V6 so there's a plus to the vehicle already. Throttle Body (simple V8 TB swap), relocating the IAT sensor, modifying the TPS (.70-75v), and just simple tuning tricks can gain you a noticeable difference.

well i have done nothing yet as i dont have cash yet but i did take the cat right out along with the muffler and stuck a resignator in there, theres a rumble now but still not much for acceleration
so i can get a mopar preformance pcm for my engine ehhh. would it matter if it is 4x4 or just affects the engine

It doesn't matter on the older models as the SBEC system really didn't care whether it was 2WD, 4WD, Auto, and Manual. However, you "may" get some detonation (pinging) with the Mopar PCM unless you run Super Unleaded.

You can adjust the TPS to .75v (Free), relocate the IAT sensor into the Intake stream (Free), get the airhat and tube from a '97+ model 3.5/5.2/5.9L Dakota (or Durango) ($50 at a junk yard) and install a K&N filter on the end of it ($50 Autozone). That's good for a few more ponies and the performance will be a bit better than factory. Whatever you do, stay away from the chrome/round airfilters - they soak up heat and will cause a degradation in performance once the engine is up to operating temp (underhood temperatures).

If you have the 3.55 gear set, you can change them out for gears in the 3.90 - 4.56 range.

Yup, gearing will also help, but at a cost of $200 for the Ring/Pinion and (if you're not able to do it yourself with the proper tools) - about $500 for the installation. If you're running with 31-33" tires, 3.90-4.10 gears are just about perfect. Anything larger (35"+) - you'll need to run with 4.56's.
