I have a 92 Pontiac Grand Prix. And was wondering would the fuel pressure regulator give a warning before it goes out. I was smelling heavy gas from the engine. Is that a warning. The car started and cut back off in like three seconds, and now it won't start at all. Any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum. Was the smell actually under the hood, or at the tailpipe? If it's from the engine, you could have bad o-rings on your injectors, or a bad fuel pressure regulator. If it's from the exhaust, you could be running rich-as-hell for some reason (02 sensors, ect.), which would also explain the stalling.

The fuel pressure regulator has a vacuum diaphram that can tear and leak fuel, causing a no start situation. They normally go without warning, and a strong fuel smell under the hood is a symptom of one failing.
