Hey guys I'm new at AF (joined in September but got myself to post only now). I like assembling and painting models and I'm pretty new to it.

A few weeks ago, I bought these two kits:

- Tamiya RX-7 FD + Fujimi Mods

I'm wondering if Tamiya makes oversized stock mufflers or if it's Fujimi who makes undersized pieces? lol

I think the 1:1 mufflers are different sizes.

Can't think of any aftermarket exhaust boxes that are smaller than stock - apart from Elise ones! :)

it would appear to me that the fujimi muff is smaller, but that depends on what it is scaled down from.

if you are just chopping the muff from the FD, and putting the fujimi aftermarket muff on, you will be OK. in 1:1 the stock muffler is usually much larger than the aftermarket mufflers but the aftermarket muffs have much larger piping for better flow. the smaller muffler (fujimi) is modeled after a performance piece that does very little as far as sound deadening, rather is designed for exhaust flow and sound resonance.

I say just go with what you think looks good. it's just a model, it isn't going to give it more power or better sound on the judging table, just make it look better hahaha.

there should be an exhaust tip that came with that fujimi mod kit that goes with the muffler, or you could build your own from aluminum tubing

have fun, and get creative. if YOU like it that's really all that matters.

Ok, well, my pictures mysteriously disappeared. :banghead:

So it's not a mistake made by any of the companies? I was thinking for a while that Fujimi made an undersized muffler but your intelligent responses say otherwise.

Don't worry, I don't expect to drive off into the sunset with this baby lol. :cwm27: The Fujimi ones looks a bit better in my opinion.

Well, the Fujimi optional kit represents aftermarket parts, so you can't really tell if it's smaller or bigger. Real mufflers come in different sizes.

But, if you are talking about accuracy in FD kits, the fact of the matter is that Fujimi FD kits are using a modified generic Nissan rear wheel drive chassis (used in Silvia and Skyline kits), so you can't really compare Fujimi to Tamiya. On the other hand, Tamiya tends to apply artistic interpretations to their kits (the body has been beefed up, and somewhat lost the feminine curvatures), and some might call it inaccurate, while others would think it'd look better that way.

Wow, I just noticed that My Fotki sucks. It's just plain stupid because my pics always keep changing addresses and hence disappear from the thread on a regular basis. :eek7: Does anyone know a good photo album provider/picture host that's free?
