Water in Trunk of 2000 cavalier Z24

Is there anyone out there that has had this problem? I checked my trunk and there are two air vent things with rubber flaps on them, one on each side of the fenders in the trunk, you can see them when the carpet is peeled back. It seems like the water is coming up through the fender and coming through these vent things right into my trunk. What are these for? can I, or should I seal them off to prevent water coming in? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

i had water getting into my trunk but i couldn't figure how it was getting in. all the water would end up where my spare tire sits so i drilled about 4 small holes so the water could get out instead of sitting there...not sure if this is any help

Hello, I love these cars. First of all the vents are there so the cabin air pressure doesn't get too high. With the blower on, air is pumping into the cabin and it has to get out somehow. try using a piece of screen or a piece of thin flat rubber with holes in it over top of the vent. Don't plug it. Also, if the vehicle has a wing or spoiler on the trunklid, the water can be coming in through the bolt holes. Holes in the floor is the cheapest most effective method of keeping the rain out. ever had a flat tire in the winter. Tough to get the spare out when it's frozen in the trunk in 3 inches of ice.
