OK, for the past three years or so i've dreamt of one day getting a skyline, but we all know they aren't legal anymore, so why don't we learn to deal with it. What i'm saying is, if we can't get an actual skyline, why don't we get the closest thing to it.
I'm not sure if it's legal to import the parts here, but if so, why not take an s14 chassis, and do a body conversion. Turn the 240sx into the skyline, as much as possible. I mean if kit cars can be made, then surely this is feasible. Swap in the rb26dett and there you go. I mean think about it, sure itll cost a lot of money, but i cant imagine it costing as much as what motorex used to charge.
Of course it wouldn't be an authentic skyline, but shit, what else can you do.
What do you guys think?

About how long do you think we'll have to wait until legalizing again? Finding motorexd cars are kinda hard. I just lost my car to the hurricane and i'm in need of another car ( now that I got paid from insurance). I reallly want to get a skyline now that I have the money for it.
You know anything about turbovisions.com???

if you lost your car, and this will be your only car....its not worth it and you wont want it. theft, vandalism, and turning heads from the wrong people. it all comes with ownership and its definatly not something you want to be driving around all the time.
currently...nothing is set in stone. RB is getting close, but seans been saying that for the past year. ive been talking with jon at RB and he said that they have been making some significant improvements but things are still a ways off.

i didn't think anything was happening, and in response to RB, you gotta keep us posted, because i thought there was zero chance the skyline would be imported again.
By the time i get the money to do a conversion like that, maybe the car will be legal here. I'm definately not going out financing a new car for awhile now....I guess I'll just wait.

ok, so motorex...no longer imports skylines?
i mean thats what im getting from reading these forums
if this is true..then if i have 90 plus K that i want to put into a car...i can't get an r34? motorex...doesnt answer their phones or emails..neither does RB motoring, so how can i buy a skyline if the companies that sell them...arent selling them
i guess i just need an update as to whats going on and why
if motorex at one point and time was legalizing them...why would they no longer be able to? and if motorex is not leglaizing anymore..why not just release the information as to hwo to do it since they no longer make any money from it, as far as i can tell they arent even in business anymore, i was gonna go out to their place in december..if they exist

seems like a very long story...I tried reading all of them and I still don't know half of the reasons why motorex stopped. ( lots of customers were unsatisfied, and they weren't doing their paper work correctly ) Anyways motorex couldn't even import R34s because of some reason, they just imported R32s and R33s. Thats the info I got from reading the other threads.
As for the conversion...its not worth it. No matter how much you put into a 240sx to make it look like a skyline it won't be the same. Even with the engine. It seems like a big waste to me besides if you already have a 240sx keep it and get a S14 conversion with an Sr20 turbo engine, and try to keep it real. I know there are a lot of 240sx, but some people are comin out with new things everyday with that car. Skylines a great car but so is the 240sx even with the "Truck" engine. =)

Yep. I know where you are coming from. The old 7M's from Toyota were given that name too. I have thought about getting a 240, swaping in a SR20 and boosting the hell out of it as a substitute because I cant get a MarkII/Chaser. I have thought of doing a 1JZ swap in a SC300 or 89 Supra to hold me until I could get one. But that is not cheap and I have my eyes on a street bike next which is a lot cheaper. Engine swaps are the closet anyone can come to having anything JDM (legally) at this point. But if your want for something you cant have is strong and your want for it trully runs that deeply, then nothing will substitute for it no matter how alike it is or better it is. Its just a waste of time. Im just going to wait on the 25 year rule. It all about patients and there is a chance they might change the laws on imports long before the 25 year rule applies to what you want.

i just recently heard about the r34 front end conversion that Bomex made for the 240sx, so i checked their site and it was discontinued, and i couldn't find a picture. Does anyone here have a picture of it, and was it for the s13 or s14, and did it you a r34 bumper and hood?

ive seen a skyvia/skyfourty with the r32 front end, looked pimp on an s13.

motorex never cracked the jap spec OBDII system used on the 96+ r33's and r34's. the few 96+ cars that got through were reg'ed as 95's. mrex does NOT legalize cars anymore, but will finish the stock pile that they have sitting on their lot. you cannot buy a skyline the legal route (until i can get some more information from some people) right now, unless you get one through a previously motorex'ed car.
they cant release the information because they paid alot of money for the information they have. they arent just going to release it.

ok, so....the only way to legalize one is to wait for someone to
A) crack the OBDII system using a powerful enough piggyback ECU like the AEM EMS as stated might be possible here to be come EPA compliant
http://www.rbmotoring.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23, and then
B) use reverse engineering to take apart a motorex car and a non motorex car and monitor the engineering differences to the car..wich would take care of everything needed to legalize it like a motorex car. as stated by several people should be possible here for example http://www.rbmotoring.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4..and then
C) after all that is done submit the car under the same compliance pettition used by motorex to the DOT and EPA and im sure a million other htings having to do with paper work that i dont know anything about....
but if we can manage to do all that...would it be possible? and feel free to list more requirements / roadblocks to the legalization
oh also one more question, you can import a 99..r34...because of the petition wich says 1990 t0 99 but the petition does not cover 2000-03 cars even tho they are the same? if someone could clear that one up for me that would be great

you have the basic idea of it, its alot more complicated than you make it sound. although we dont plan on using motorex's petition. RB is/has been drawing up their own petition with the help of sean morris.

with the new petition wouldn't they have to re-crash test the cars? that seems..redundant and i don't exactly understand the purpose
and isnt RBmotoring really busy with the new AF racing car and its events and what not, it sounds like legalizing skylines is not their main focus at the moment, i mean i dont know who all is trying to do what or what has been done, whats with the moderator who says very exciting things are being done in a stickied post on this forum in regards to the arizona project car...i have no idea what that is about, then there is rbmotoring who is...trying to redo what motorex did but im sure..more legal, but no one really seems to know whats going on...except for you,
can you point me towards some posts that would help me understand the more complicated aspects of everything, i dont mind reading everything there is to know about the entire process..i just cant seem to find it all written down somewhere, someone has to have a broken down list of everything that needs to be done and in what sequence in regards to legalizing the cars, i should probably just shut up and wait and see what happens...and not try to understand it but for some reason it has just fascinated me and i cant stop thinking about all the intricacies of the case, feel free to ignore me if im annoying you

I keep reading that skylines will be legalized again in 6 months to a year. Is this a realistic timetable for the things that need to be done, and does this give everyone working on it at RB time to do it comfortably. I mean at least everyone's opinion is optimistic, and the vibe i feel is that they will get legalized...eventually. But if its just a year around the corner, then i won't have a problem waiting.

yes and no. the crash testing used in the petition is the same crash testing that JK motors did (who did mrex's petition). RB isnt redoing everything, but the whole emissions section plus a few new items that were brought up from mrex's petition. + new plans on the crash testing. right now i dont know, but i know the things that are going to be re-done are at least the seatbelt restraints and possibly the passenger(driverside) reinforcement beams.
