automatic headlights

Hello all, got a wierd problem I just noticed. Seems whenever i turn on my automatic headlights, they turn on and are on all the time. They run even in the middle of the day in bright sunlight. As soon as I turn on the switch, broad daylight mind you, the headlights and tailights click on. They do turn off automatically when exiting the vehicle after a delay just like they are supposed to though. Anyone else experienced similiar issues? I think the little black bubble thingy on the dash near the windshield is the sensor, but how to tell if its bad or what to replace?

Wow that's funny. I noticed my 97 Taurus doing the same thing last week. Haven't paid much attention to it, but I figured tht was the culprit. I believe that this "bulb" is a photocell and that it possibly bit the bullet. Not sure how you'd get it out to test it though.

You might have the adjusting "wheel" turned up. It adjusts the sesitivity to the outdoor light. The wheel is right by the auto-on switch.

The only wheel I have on mine is for how long the lights stay on after the ignition is turned off, not sensitivity.

Ditto, I had the switch you speak of on my 87 Thunderbird for sensitivity, but it is not present on my 01 Sable. Anyone else fixed this or ran up against it?

Sorry guys, you are correct. The wheel is for the length of time not sensitivity. I'm mixing up my cars.
