it says there that it will need replacing when it squeals or whatever, but it only squeals when i turn my ac on, could it be something else? i have checked out the belt and it looks brand new, but the other day after it was squealing (it stoped so i figured it was ok) and on my drive home i smelt rubber burning so i turned the ac off, so if it s not the belt, what else could it be?
also strauss auto quoted me 400 bucks to change the belt? :eek7: WDF?

sometimes they squeek when they are wet, but if it squeaks all the time when the ac is on you probly need a new belt.

it only squeaks when i put the ac on, but if i turn the ac off then turn it back on a couple of times it will stop, but like last night on my way home i started smelling burnt rubber.

ya i would replace it. Don't cost that much. i would recomend the gatorback belt by good year. You can get them at auto zone. It looks like to me the strongest belt.

but its deff the belt? like why does it only happen when the ac is on?

when ac is turned on it adds more resistance to the belt b/c it is running the compressor instead of just spinning freely

i have a suggestion although it can be dangerous if you are not careful, what i have done in the past is take a bar of soap to the inside of the belt while the engine is running, hold it there for a few seconds so the soap rubs off onto the belt, doesnt always werk and be careful not to get caught in the belt

Simpler to use and a lot easier to apply (it sprays on). Available at most autopart stores.

Or you could have something wrong with the pulley on your AC

Like the belt is slipping due to somthing seizing up. More than likly the compressor clutch is messed. When the AC is disengauged, the pully spins freely.

Beat me to it, is there anyway he can find out if it's the AC without trying a new belt? Cuz they're like 20 bucks!

OR your belt could just be a hair loose, then you'd need to replace the tensioner
it very well could be the ac pulley seizing up too, my ac makes a fucked up noise sometimes, like a bearing in the pulley going out, all i do though is the turn the ac on and right back off and the noise disappears, but from what ive heard im not the only one with this problem

it's not that hard to remove the belt to check if the pulleys are spinning freely...
u can rent the serpentine belt tool from autozone/advance auto parts for free...
jack pass front side, remove tire, remove splash shield/wheel liners, use tool to release tension & slip belt off...
then turn the pulleys freely by hand to hear/feel for unusual noise...
also strauss auto quoted me 400 bucks to change the belt?
if you're in the nj area, i'll help u out...
also, your OEM belt may have been slightly stretched/longer than usual. When I replaced the belt on my sis' car. the newer/ replacement belt was a tad shorter...it was a part-revision according to chevy mall dealer by cherry hill mall NJ...

hopefully it's not an external seize up like the ac compressor clutch a few posts up... mebbe add a pressurized shot of ac oil into the system? the one's walmart/other parts stores sell to connect to the low-side system?

Just replace the belt. Then if it still does it place a new thread. If the new belt does not work then it is probly you ac clutch going out.
