I need some help here. I had a leak at the oil pan gasket and dove right in. Now I can't seem to wiggle the pan out. Will I need to lift the engine? If I need to, whats the best (easiest) way to do this? My truck is a 1995 4x4 with a 350 tbi.

The last time I did this (it has been a while), I disconected one of the motor mounts (passenger side) and used a cherry picker to lift the motor up. I only needed to lift the engine a few inches.

Thanks. Do you remember where you hooked the cherry picker to?

There was a hook bolted to the intake manifold.

Thanks for the tips. I got it done. I used the cherry picker on the passenger side exhaust manifold and tilted the engine. I still couldn't get enough clearance without taking the Y-pipe off so I fished the new gasket in to place with the pan hanging. It took a little more time to get the surfaces clean and the gasket positioned but I doubt I could have gotten the Y pipe off.
