Cobra Supercharger Question

I don't know anything really about mustang cobra, but i always thought that all cobras were aspirated by a screw type supercharger, yet everywhere i look it says that only the 03-04 cobra are supercharged. So are the 93-01 cobras supercharged or N/A is my question.

i don't think so i think the 03 cobra was the first year it got supercharged but don't quote me on that.

only the 03-04 cobras were Eaton SC'ed....others are NA.

the 2000 COBRA R is powered by a high output version of the 5.4 DOHC. where as the 03-04 cobra is powered by a 4.6 DOHC and a "roots" style blower(not a twin screw as some one implied)

There are actually 4 different 4.6 Cobra engines 1 iron and three versions of the aluminum blocks. The first is part number F6LZ-6010-AB used in the 1996-1998 Cobras. They are made in Italy by Teksid who also makes Ferrari engines. The block is an aluminum alloy of SAE 319; it weighs roughly 85 lbs.

1999 Cobra. The main caps in this block are slightly different as Ford took out the jackscrews. The width of the cap and different size bolt with a higher torque number are also changes in the new block.

2001 Cobra. This block is even lighter, weighing in at an amazing 80 lbs. Ford still used the same SAE 319 aluminum alloy but they add some special ribbing around the block and main bearings. The oil drain-back holes are different in this block, keeping the oil further away from the crankshaft.
Notes:
1. Some 01s have a Windsor Aluminum Plat Block. These seem to be done at random.
2. The Mach1 Block is similar to the 01 Cobra Teksid but weaker and made by the Windsor Aluminum Plat.

03/04 Cobras. These are the only Cobras to be equipped from the factory with a supercharger at this time. They also have a cast iron block. Although is stronger it is also almost twice the weight of the 01 block.

I wonder why they went with a roots.
Wouldnt it make more sence for them to go with a twin screw instead of a roots.

Price...The bean counters at Ford get way to involved with SVT and end up ruining the final product. The GT500 test mule had a twin screw but it was dropped mainly due to price.

if SVT had there way im sure they would but im sure execs overseeing SVT have the final say, and to them keeping the cost in check matters more.although they went all out on the ford GT as it is equipped with a twin screw blower.
