Crank Pulley Removal

hey all!! i decided to repair the problem causing zero compression in cyl 3, do i am in the process of taking the cylinder head off. everything is apart and good, but i am to last few steps: taking off crank pulley and timing belt. problem is, i have NO idea on how to keep crank pulley from turning to remove the very tight bolts. the haynes manula suggests using a chain wrench, but i have no idea how to use one or where to get one. also, are there any other methods on getting the pulley from rotating? thanks guys.

You might try using a C-clamp. As you face the pulley, the C-clamp would be attached to the rim of the pulley (with some surface protection) so that the screw shaft is pointing towards the back of the car, a block of wood directly under it would stop it from turning as you rotate the crankshaft nut counter clockwise. I recently did one with a chain wrench but this is probably what I'd try otherwise.

you only have to remove the 4 or 5 small bolts to remove pulley. you can use a hammer to tap end of rachet to loosen them.

got the pulley off guys. jammed flywheel and did it thatway. thanks

Just an FYI you can get a chain wrench at Harbor Freight tools if you have one in your area. It looks like a vise grip and it works great. Just an idea for next time.
