alright im trying to remove the front rotors off of a 2002 Hyundai Elantra
I've removed the caliper and the caliper anchor plate along with the two screws that were in the face of the rotor.....I then proceeded to beat the rotor for about 10-15 minutes and it wouldn't come off.......is there a special tool required to remove this rotor or do i continue beating it ?
Oh by the way i 'am hitting it from the back.

I changed my rotor and cap on my 87 accord many years ago and I couldn't get it off either, so i called my families mechanic, and he told me just to pull.. really hard. That seemed to work. I've never done it on my elantra, but I'd assume they are pretty much the same?

Yup! That's fun. I had to do it on mine also. All that's going on is that the axle shaft has "rust-seized" onto the rotor. Buy some "PB Penetrating oil" spray the h*ll out of it, and PULL. It really helps if you have a buddy pulling on the rotor while you hit the axle shaft with a PLASTIC hammer--like a dead blow. Do not hit it with a steel hammer--not even lightly. Good Luck.

Yep, Michie has it right. These things rust together unfortunately. The best solution is to remove the rotor and lube the interface to prevent rust. Once it's rusted, though, you're kinda SOL.

I myself am a hyundai owner, and one would think that rotors would be something that you COULD do in your garage, but low and behold, its not! to get the rotors off they have to be machine pressed off and on, i know i went threw the same problems, and tried the whole axle hammer thing, DO NOT TRY!! in short it saves time and a long list of repairs to go to a brake shop

'98's like you have are different than the 2002s. On the '98, you do have to have the rotors pressed on and off. On the 2002s, they should slide right off when everything is out of the way. They do have a tendency to rust to the hub though. BFH should do the trick though. You will destroy your rotors in the meantime, so plan on buying new ones.
