95 Jetta wont start

I own a 95 jetta with a 2.0 liter engine. Yesterday it was raining pretty hard and I was driving down the road and the engine died. I initialy thought that it must be a problem with the plug wires/ cap/ rotor, or something along those lines. It's been 2 years and atleast 30,000 miles since I replaced either of those three parts. I sprayed some wd-40 around the plugs and on the cap to try and get rid of any moisture and I also removed the cap and wiped it clean, the car still wont start. It stopped raining today so I had the car towed home and checked for fuel and spark, both there. I checked the timing belt and it was a tooth off so I corrected that and checked the compression just in case, all cylinders were around 200 lbs, the car still wont start. I cleaned the spark plugs, which are fairly new and good quality, and also scraped the cap and rotor clean, no luck with that either. I've cleaned a few grounds as well as the MAF sensor. Nothing seems to work.

One thing that I did find that seems funny is, with a fuel presure guage hooked up I found that while the engine is cranking it has about 40 lbs of pressure but it doesn't hold that pressure when the engine stops. The pressure slowly seeps down. I don't know that this is even abnormal and doubt that this has anything to do with the engine starting.

Any suggestions?

You're getting spark at the plugs? If so, check to see if they are wet/fuel fouled after cranking.

thanks for the reply. Last week I tested the spark and it wasn't strong so I replaced the coil and it started right up. I guess that the ignition on volkswagen are realy sensative and they need a strong spark to run.
